TUCSON, Ariz. – Four University of Arizona academic standouts were named Student-Athletes of the Summer 2013. Gabby Kaufman of soccer, Kieren Thompson of men’s tennis, Chelsea Goodacre of softball and Tevin Hood of football were honored by Arizona's C.A.T.S. Academics staff.
UA student-athletes are recognized for their outstanding academic effort, demonstrating academic improvement, solid academic performance and evidence of personal character, integrity and standing out as a role model.
With two road wins to open the 2013 season, Kaufman has paced the soccer team to the best start the program has seen since 2008 when the Wildcats also won their first two matches. In wins at Florida International and Florida Atlantic, she recorded five saves and allowed two goals.
Hood and the Wildcat football team will take to Arizona Stadium on Fri., Aug. 30 to host Northern Arizona. The 7 p.m. contest will air on Pac-12 Networks. Hood started three and played in 13 games in 2012. Originally joining the team as a walk-on, Hood was awarded a scholarship this summer.
Goodacre and Thompson have resumed training with their respective teams with the start of the fall semester on Monday. The men’s tennis team will begin fall competition on Fri., Sept. 13 at the Napa Valley Collegiate Invitational.
