I regularly do Exit Interviews with graduating student-athletes during which they fill out a very specific form that details their experience at the University of Arizona both as a student and as an athlete. Senior track and field student-athlete Tamara Pridgett (pictured in today’s photo with her parents and Coach Fred Harvey) was recently in my office and we had a good talk about her experiences. She was candid, thoughtful and did a great job of giving me insight that helps our department make decisions.

One of the things I have heard lately from some groups, as student-athlete welfare has been on the front burner, is that we are not doing near enough for our student-athletes. While there is much we can and need to discuss about always improving the student-athlete experience, this should not overshadow the fact that we are doing a significant amount for them now, and we will continue to do so.

I think Tamara’s blog does a great job of describing her experiences and I hope you take the time to read this.

Most of you will read this as we begin our final stretch on #AZRoadTour14 with tonight’s stop in Pinetop. We appreciate everyone’s support so far on this year’s road tour, and want to invite our fans and alums in northern Arizona to join us tomorrow night (5/29) for the final stop on the 2014 Road Tour at the historic Hassayampa Inn in Prescott.   Coach MillerCoach RodriguezCoach Butts and I will be there 5:30-7:30 p.m. to help Prescott kick off their sesquicentennial weekend. To RSVP for this free event, click here and join us tomorrow night. #AZisWildcatCountry

Our men’s and women’s track and field programs will have a total of 34 entries (14 men, 20 women) for the NCAA West Preliminaries in Fayetteville, Ark. The NCAA West Preliminaries are the first round of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The meet is set for May 29-31. The semifinals and finals of the NCAA Championships will take place June 11-14 in Eugene, Ore. A top-12 finish in individual and relay events will earn a spot to compete in Eugene.

Juniors Hallie Wilson and Kellie Fox were named NFCA All-Americans, the association announced Wednesday. Wilson earned first-team honors while Fox was named to the third team. Wilson and Fox became Arizona’s 51st and 52nd All-Americans in program history and first since 2011.

For the season, Wilson hit .414 with 17 home runs, 10 doubles and three triples, helping her to a .799 slugging percentage in 60 starts at first base. Fox, the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, was third on the team with a .389 average and collected 15 doubles and 15 home runs.

Members of our baseball team were honored today by the Pac-12. Outfielder Scott Kingery and shortstop Kevin Newman, both sophomores, were on the 32-player all-conference team. Newman was also one of 10 players on the all-defensive team. Sophomore outfielder Zach Gibbons was named all-conference honorable mention. The future is bright for Coach Lopez and our baseball program.

We are less than 100 days away from the start of the 2014 football season. Our season opens on Friday, August 29 vs. UNLV at Arizona Stadium. Kickoff times and TV info for some of our games are expected in the near future. Once we get notified from the conference, we’ll announce those kickoff times on our website and via social media.

Season ticket sales have been strong this spring. We’ve received a great response from our Ticket To Success Tour stops. I’m looking forward to visiting M3 Engineering this Friday. I wanted to share with you a graphic we use in the #T2ST presentations. We’ve made our season tickets the most affordable in the Pac-12. The chart below illustrates the entry-level season ticket prices for each Pac-12 school. The $99 season ticket comes out to about $14 per game, and if you have kids 12 and under, you can purchase a kid season ticket for $50. Click here to purchase season tickets online. You can also call the McKale Ticket Office at 520-621-CATS (2287) and ask for information on our payment plan option.

June is fast approaching and so is our deadline to reach our goal of 12,000 Wildcat Club members.  As you can see from the snapshot below, we are getting close, but we still need to grow our membership to meet our goal by June 30!

For those of you who have been thinking about it, we would love to have you join.  A tax-deductible gift of $100 or more, or $9 a month, makes you a Wildcat Club member, qualifies you for annual giving benefits and most importantly, helps UA student-athletes.  Click here to join today!

We’re collecting questions and topics to address in Wildcat Wednesday and we’d like to encourage everyone to continue sending items. We don’t expect to be able to answer every question or address every topic, but we’ll do our best to pick items that seem most important to the readers and write about them in the space above. If you have something you think might make a good question or topic, please email it to

Now that the spring semester has ended, a larger number of our student-athletes have an opportunity to seek employment. While employment is permissible year round, the summer tends to be a time when student-athletes have more time to explore jobs and internships. While there is no limit on employment earnings, the NCAA does require each institution to monitor the employment earnings to ensure the student-athlete is doing the actual job they were hired to perform and is being paid the normal going rate for the job.
