TUCSON – The University of Arizona men’s and women’s cross country squads were both named as NCAA Division I All-Academic teams as announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).


A total of 192 women’s teams from 30 conferences earned the distinction for the NCAA women while 152 institutions in 31 conferences were selected on the men’s side.  The Arizona women were one of seven teams from the Pac-10 Conference while the Arizona men were one of four teams selected from the conference.


To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five regional participants at their respective NCAA regional championship.


The Arizona women posted a cumulative GPA of 3.07 while the men have a cumulative 3.23 GPA.


The Arizona women matched their best finish in school history at the Pac-10 Championships, finishing second.  The squad then went on to place fourth at the NCAA West Regional and 11th at the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. - tops among programs in the Pac-10 Conference. 


Sophomore Megan Meyer and freshman Elvin Kibet were both named to the USTFCCCA’s Division I All-Academic team as individuals on Tuesday.
