Wildcats Conclude Season with Victory over Boise State, 4-1

TUCSON, Ariz. – In the season finale of the inaugural year, the Arizona sand volleyball team went out on top with a solid 4-1 victory over Boise State on Saturday at the Arizona Sand Volleyball Courts. Earlier in the day, the Cats fell to No. 1-ranked USC, 5-0.

Arizona finished its inaugural season with an 8-12 overall record. USC finished the regular season with a 22-1 overall record, while Boise State finished 4-7.

After having to forfeit at the No. 5 position, Arizona quickly made up the deficit by picking up a quick straight set victory at the No. 4 position as Allie Cook and Taylor Arizobal won 21-16, 21-18 over Casey Rose and Katelyn Kinghorn.

The Arizona team of Rachel Rhoades and Sarah Seiber battled to victory in a tough three-set match at the No. 3 position over Alyssa Gammel and Brittany Reardon, 21-13, 18-21, 15-11. The victory put the Wildcats in front 2-1.

In the second round of action, Arizona was dominant as it won both matches in straight sets. Madison and McKenna Witt opened things up with a quick 21-17, 21-13 victory at the No. 2 position over Aly Duffin/Maddy O’Donnell.

Arizona’s No. 1 team of Madi Kingdon and Ronni Lewis followed as they breezed past Sarah Baugh and Sarah Horton, 21-10, 21-9.

In the opening competition of the day, USC jumped out to a quick start by earning victories at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions. The No. 3 team of Sam Hirschmann and Natasha Siljkovich started it out with a win over Rhoades and Seiber, 21-17, 21-18. Just a couple minutes later, Paige Hines and Alexa Stonish knocked off Cook and Arizobal, 21-18, 21-18.

In the second round of play, Kirby Burnham and Sara Hughes defeated Kingdon and Lewis at the No. 1 position, 21-6, 21-14. The Trojans completed the sweep as the No. 2 team of Alexa Strange and Kelly Claes downed the Witt twins, 21-14, 21-18.
