On November 8, the University of Arizona Intercollegiate Athletics
Department will recognize seven former student-athletes for their football
accomplishments. Michael Bates (Pac-10 Player of the Year), Brant Boyer (10
years in the NFL), Byron Evans (Pac-10 Player of Year), John Fina (11 Years
in the NFL), Glenn Parker (12 Years in the NFL), Tom Tunnicliffe (Arizona
career leader in passing yards, pass completions, TD passes, and total
offense), and Dana Wells (Pac-10 Player of the Year) will all be recognized
at half-time during the Arizona vs Washington football game.
The Ring of Fame was established in 1998 and recognizes former
student-athletes in the following categories:
- First Team All-America recognition by one or more of the major, national
organizations or media;
- Major national "player of the distinction" e.g. Heisman, Outland, etc.;
- Pac-10 Player of Year or Pac-10 Freshman of the Year;
- Arizona Career leader in 3 or more positive categories at the conclusion
of their collegiate career, must hold the career record for at least 5
years;
- 10+ years in the United States Professional Leagues (NFL);
- USA Olympian;
- End of the year, national leadership in a major, positive statistical
category.
"Homecoming weekend is a great time to recognize these outstanding alumni,"
Athletics Director Jim Livengood said. "We couldn't be more proud to call
them all Wildcats."
