Brandy Dujmic earned her Bachelor's of Arts degree in Secondary Education from the University of Arizona. She is currently attending Grand Canyon University in pursuit of a Masters of Arts degree in Special Education with an anticipated graduation date of May 2011.
Mrs. Dujmic has been an English teacher at Empire High School since 2006. She was encouraged to take on several honors courses, which she did with enthusiasm. However, Brandy's impact went much beyond her regular and honors classes when she volunteered to teach a special education (adaptive) English class. Her personal approach to working with students and focus on instructional strategies made her initial transition into a special education classroom flawless. Mrs. Dujmic further created a journalism class, which began as a course centered on the development of an online school newspaper, but emerged into an opportunity for students to become columnists for Converge, a national educational magazine. Writing articles such as "Authentic Assessments vs. Tests," "High School Prep Does Matter," and "The Potential Impact of Common Core Standards," Mrs. Dujmic's students are not only learning the content, they are applying their knowledge and experiencing the satisfaction of having their work published nationally.
Brandy's list of extracurricular and community service activities are numerous and she has impacted the community in many unique ways. As the All School Read team leader, Brandy created school wide reading events and discussions over a single novel. Members of the community were included by reading and displaying the novel in their own businesses to support and develop literature discussions and a community of literacy. Brandy also created the Student Writing Center where she works with community volunteers to provide literacy/writing support for all students at Empire High School.
