Susan Williams earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Masters in Teaching and Teacher Education from the University of Arizona. She has been teaching for the past 21 years.
Susan presently teaches at Ironwood Ridge High School where she teaches AP Literature and Pre AP English 9. In her 21 years of experience she has taught all levels and abilities of students. Susan believes that teaching is much more about asking the right questions than giving the right answers. Her favorite response to a question is, "I don't know, let's figure it out together." Sparking students' curiosity is her priority as a teacher. Her students enjoy classroom discussions and end up learning more about themselves from the books they read, than about the books themselves. Susan maintains high expectations for her students but is also there with a safety net of support if they ever struggle. She genuinely enjoys her job and cares about the well-being and success of her students.
Susan serves Ironwood Ridge High as the English Department Chair and sponsor of the International Quidditch Association team - a complicated sport from the Harry Potter books that has become extremely popular throughout high school and college campuses. She also partakes in Relay for Life, a walk to raise money for and increase the awareness of breast cancer. Susan also helped organize an Awards Assembly focusing not solely on good grades, but on honoring the good character among many of Ironwood's students.
