Mr. Curtis Acosta is a professional educator and a life-long learner. He has taught for 15 years in the Tucson Unified School District and currently teaches Mexican American Studies. Curtis has also been a campus leader in sponsoring Tucson High's Unity Festival and the Movimiento Estudiantil Chicanos de Aztlan Club. Through these leadership opportunities, he tries to bring educational unity and then serve in the critical role of being a mentor. Curtis not only shares the value of education with his students, he lives it by earning a Master's Degree and pursuing a Doctorate. Additionally, Curtis shares his knowledge by presenting at educational conferences throughout the country.

In the classroom, Curtis focuses on creating student voice and empowerment to help students develop an assertive sense of self. To develop self-awareness, students will read great works and actually create dramatic interpretations to teach their peers. Dramatic interpretation encourages the student to integrate new learning with personal experience and the process actually culminates in a theatrical performance. This successful approach has led to an average graduation rate of 96% of his students. A recent graduate described Curtis' classroom as, "a creative and compassionate space for Curtis' dynamic teaching, he inspired this graduate and continues to inspire many students to pursue their dreams."
