Duane Chun, Ed.D. graduated from Buena High School, where he has taught for 19 years. He earned a bachelor's degree in Instrumental Music Education from Arizona State University, a master's in Administration and Supervision and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Phoenix.
Dr. Chun is the band director and Theatre Technology teacher for Buena High and Assistant Manager of School/Community Relations for Sierra Vista Public Schools. The 140-member marching band has performed at the Great Wall of China, Jefferson Memorial, Pearl Harbor, and in New York City's St. Patrick's Day Parade. Dr. Chun is a proponent of differentiated instruction, and takes advantage of "spontaneous teaching moments" his students call "Chun Chats." He uses 3-D animation graphics to arrange music and band drills, mp3 audio files to customize practices, tweets and texts to increase communication, and Facebook to organize reunions. He effectively engages parents. Dr. Chun was voted Cochise County High School Teacher of the Year in 2011.
Dr. Chun is a part-time professor for Wayland Baptist University and a Conversational English instructor for many summers in China. A long-time volunteer for the American Red Cross, he received its highest volunteer honor, "Star of Arizona," in 2008 for his work as a health and safety instructor.
