TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The University of Arizona cross country team was in action today for the Pre-NCAA Cross Country Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind. The women took 21st in the 6K blue race with 581 points and the men took 16th in the 8K white race with 352 points.
"Our men still have three of our top guys out, but all of them ran a better race today and I saw improvement," head coach James Li said. "The women keep getting better. Claire and Addi again had a great race. We need to have that fifth runner close the gap a little bit more. It was a good race and a pretty good day for us."
Claire Green led the women with a 20th-place finish with a time of 20:35.1, Addi Zerrenner finished behind her in 37th with a time of 20:52.0. Freshman Jennie Baragar-Petrash clocked in at 21:36.1, Annie Richards finished her race in 21:53.2, Kirsten Vergara clocked a time of 23:01.0, Kayla Ferron finished the race in 23:27.2 and McKenna Gaffney rounded it off for Arizona with a time of 24:18.7.
For the men, they were once again highlighted by Collins Kibet, who took fifth place in the 8K race at a time of 24:59.4. Patrick Leary took 73rd with a time of 26:25.4, Matthew Beer took 86th with a time of 26:37.7, Jeffrey Gautreau finished with a time of 26:43.2, Emilio Vasquez clocked a time of 26:50.2 and Michael Garcia clocked in at 27:37.5. Next up for the Wildcats will be the ASU Cross Country Invitational, which will take place next Friday, October 21 in Tempe, Ariz.
