ISLEWORTH, FLA. – The University of Arizona Men's Golf team concluded play of the 2016 edition of the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational. The Cats finished in 12th place with a score of 902 (+38).
"We can be better, and the guys know it," commented head men's golf coachÂ
Jim Anderson. "Today was very tough, and I need to do a better job preparing the team for the conditions we faced. We were certainly humbled by the golf course and field today. Despite common mistakes, we found ways to compound them into bigger numbers. We are a hard working, and smart team, so I believe we will learn from this. We will regroup for next week to close with a strong finish to the fall season."
Leading the Cats throughout the competition was juniorÂ
George Cunningham, who recorded a 76 (+4) in the final round of play. The junior ends the tournament in a tie for 36th place with a score of 223 (+7). Cunningham finished play with seven birdies, and in the top ten in pars made.Â
JuniorÂ
Ethan Marcus finished in a tie for 52nd place with a score of 228 (+12). FreshmanÂ
David Laskin scored a 229 (+13) to finish in a tie for 57th. SeniorÂ
Redford Bobbitt ends play in a tie for 63rd place with a score of 231 (+15). JuniorÂ
Jordan Gumberg tied for 66th place with a score of 232 (+16).
Freshman Davis Laskin recorded the most birdies for the Cats on the day. The California native recorded three birdies in the third round and finished in the top-20 in par-3 scoring. The 349-yard par-4 16th hole was a popular one for the Cats; having three of five competitors recording birdies in the third round and collected eight birdies throughout the competition.Â
Up next, the Cats will travel to Pebble Beach, California to compete in the St. Mary's Invitational on Monday, October 24th.
