TUCSON - Arizona shut out Grand Canyon and Eastern Arizona on day 1 of fall ball. The Wildcats no-hit Grand Canyon in a 13-0 victory before downing Eastern Arizona 16-0.
Game 1 - Arizona 13, Grand Canyon 0
Taylor McQuillin and
Nancy Bowling combined to throw a no-hitter and the offense supplied 13 runs of support as the Wildcats blanked Grand Canyon in the first game of the fall season.
With no run-rule in effect for fall games, Arizona and Grand Canyon went the full seven innings. McQuillin tossed three perfect innings and Bowling allowed two base runners over the final four: an error and a walk. McQuillin struck out three of the nine batters she faced and Bowling fanned one.
Arizona's offense got off to a quick start, plating two runs four batters into the game, setting up a 13-run, 14-hit outing.
Joelle Krist went 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBI in the game. Bowling contributed in the batter's box as well, driving in three runs in just two at-bats.
In her first game in an Arizona uniform after tearing her ACL last season,
Alyssa Palomino went 2-for-3 with two RBI, including an RBI triple in her first at-bat.
Mandie Perez,
Katiyana Mauga, Jessie Harper and
Ashleigh Hughes notched RBI in the game.
Game 2 - Arizona 16, Eastern Arizona 0 (5 innings)
Arizona sent 12 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first, scoring seven runs in the process, paving the way for a 16-0 victory over Eastern Arizona.
The Cats scored seven in the first, four in the second, four in the third and one in the fourth in the victory.
Hillary Edior led the Wildcats with four RBI, three of which came on a second-inning homer.
Robyn Porter also homered in the contest.
Danielle O'Toole started and threw three shutout innings before
Michelle Floyd took over and struck out all six batters she faced.
Mandie Perez went 3-for-3 at the plate, driving in one run and scoring two more. She was one of three Wildcats to record multiple hits in the game; Edior and
Alyssa Palomino had two apiece.
