TUCSON - Arizona head diving coach
Omar Ojeda has been selected as the head coach of the Puerto Rico diving team, the Puerto Rican Olympic Committee announced on Wednesday. Ojeda will accompany Wildcat alum
Rafael Quintero to Rio De Janiero for the 2016 Olympics.
Ojeda, who will enter his sixth season as Arizona's diving coach in 2016-17, was a standout diver for the Wildcats from 2000-2002.
Ojeda's tutelage helped Quintero earn the 2016 Pac-12 Diver of the Year award 14 years after Ojeda earned the designation in back-to-back seasons as the 2001 and 2002 Pac-10 Diver of the Year. Ojeda also was present at the 2016 FINA Diving World Cup, helping Quintero qualify for the Olympics, 12 years after Ojeda did so himself. Ojeda qualified for the 2004 Olympics for Team Mexico, but never competed in Athens. Now, Quintero will get his Olympic opportunity, this time as Quintero's guide as the Puerto Rican head coach.
