The University of Arizona women's golf team began play at the Dick McGuire Invitational on Monday in Albuquerque, N.M. The Wildcats were scheduled to play two rounds on the opening day of the tournament. Play was suspended midway through the second round of the day due to inclement weather. The team is currently shooting three over par and finds itself in eight place.
"The ladies struggled a little bit but were prepared for a tough day," said head coach
Laura Ianello. "We were lead by Krystal and Natalia with solid rounds of 68, Jessica came down with altitude sickness but played tough throughout the whole day. The team is excited to fight hard and come back to win tomorrow."
Junior
Krystal Quihuis started off the day with a round of 68 (-4) and through 12 holes was 3-under-par. She is tied for third. Sophomore
Haley Moore notched a 70 (-2) and was 1-over through 12 holes. Senior
Jessica Vasilic posted a 74 (+2) in the first round and was 1-over-par through 11 holes. Senior
Wanasa Zhou posted rounds of 74 (+2) and is 2-over through 14 holes. Freshman
Sandra Nordaas carded a 78 (+6) in her first round as a Wildcat and is currently 3-over through 12 holes in the second round.
In the individual competition, junior
Natalia Forero shot a great round of 68 (-4) and was 2-under when play was suspended. Sophomore
Danielle Lee shot a 1-under-par 71 and through 13 holes in round two is 6-over.
