Donate to Help U.S.S. Arizona Survivors Return to Pearl Harbor

TUCSON, Ariz. – As part of the Pearl Harbor and U.S.S. Arizona special recognitions accompanying Arizona's game against Hawai'i on Saturday, Wildcat fans can help U.S.S. Arizona survivors and their immediate families return to Hawai'i for the 75th anniversary.

Fans can donate to a fundraising campaign being led by Randy Stratton, the son of survivor Don Stratton, by visiting arizonafinalsalute.com. The fundraising platform Community Funded has donated their services and standard fees, so 100 percent of any donation will go directly to helping the survivors return to Pearl Harbor.

In addition, Arizona Athletics has partnered with UA vendor The Underestimated City to sell a limited edition t-shirt based on Arizona's custom uniforms to assist the fundraising campaign. Originally, no merchandise or apparel was approved for this event to ensure the focus is on honoring the U.S.S. Arizona and its crew. However, we were approached by the owners of The Underestimated City, Israel Zavala, who served in the Arizona Army National Guard, 860th MP company, and Gabe Grateron, a 2012 alum of Arizona, who proposed the donation. Zavala and Grateron are proud to donate all proceeds from t-shirt sales directly to arizonafinalsalute.com. Because we have been assured that all proceeds from t-shirt sales will go directly to arizonafinalsalute.com, we've approved the shirts. No other merchandise is approved by the University. The t-shirts are available at The Underestimated City located at 402 N. 4th Ave in Tucson, or online at www.theunderestimatedcity.com.

UPDATE: The Underestimated City has sold out in store but will take online orders through Friday, Sept. 23. This initiative has already generated over $30,000 for Arizona Final Salute.

The campaign has already collected $40,000 of the $50,000 goal, so any assistance in reaching and exceeding that goal would be appreciated by the survivors and their families. Funds raised above $50,000 will be used for extended family members of the survivors. In the event that more than $50,000 is raised, the fund will be used to provide the survivors transportation to and from the airport, an allocation for food during their stay and pay for any of the additional costs associated with the 75th Anniversary. If those following financial goals are met with the surplus, excess funds will go to charter a plane so that additional family members may be invited to attend.
