Three Freshmen Honored in USA Swimming's 18 & Under World 100 Program

TUCSON, Ariz. – Freshmen swimmers Hannah Cox, Kennedy Lohman and Brendan Meyer were selected as honorees of the 18 & Under World 100 program, announced by USA Swimming on Wednesday.
 
The top ranked 50 men and 50 women were selected according to their highest ranking in an individual Olympic event. Athletes must be registered USA Swimming members at the time of their qualifying performances and eligible to represent the U.S. in international competition as of Sept. 1, 2016.
 
On the women's side, Cox was ranked 22nd from her performance in the 400 free (4:09.72). Cox qualified for five events at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials, and competed in three of them: the 400m free, 200m free and 200m IM. She finished eighth in the final of the 400m free at the competition (4:09.72). The freshman was also named to the 2016 USA Junior National Team this year. Prior to Arizona, Cox earned two gold medals at the East Junior Nationals in December, breaking two New England records and a junior national record. She was victorious in the 500 free (4:37.82) to break the junior national record, and in the 200 free (1:44.67).
 
Lohman tied for the 41st on the list, her ranking coming from the 100 breast (1:09.50). At the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials, Lohman took 39th in the 100 breast while also swimming in the 200 breast. Before Arizona, she was a two-time member of the U.S. National Junior Team. Lohman is also a four-time Kentucky State Champion in the 200 medley relay, setting region and state meet records. She holds the National Independent High School record in the 200 medley relay and a school record in the 100 breast.
 
For the men, Meyer was ranked 26th from his performance in the 200 fly (1:59.18). At the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials, Meyer finished 18th in the 200 fly, 23rd in the 400 free and 85th in the 1,500 free. The freshman was named to the 2016 USA Junior National Team this year. Prior to Arizona, he was a four-time letterwinner in high school and a two-time state champion (500 free, 200 medley relay). He holds a state record in the 400 free relay and school records in the 500 free, 200 free relay, 400 free relay and 200 medley relay.
