SAN FRANCISCOĀ āĀ It was a big day for senior and 37th-ranked
Lauren Marker and freshman
Paris Corley at the Battle in the Bay Classic in San Francisco, Calif. The morning started off with a victory in the doubles championship. Then, after a brief rest, Marker and Corley squared off in the singles title match, in which Marker got the best of Corley.

"This was an excellent tournament for our team," head coach
Vicky Maes said. "To walk away with the top spot in both singles and doubles is a feat not easily nor often accomplished. I know we have a special group this year, but seeing many aspects of play in action for the first time is always a bit of a 'wait and see' situation. Everyone responded well, made adjustments throughout the event and finished as stronger players than they were on day one. We have work to do, but there's a clearer picture of what needs to be done and the ability and willingness on the players' part to do it so I'm very excited."

Marker and Corley ended the doubles tournament by doing what they have since the first round, dominate. They posted their quickest victory of the tournament, knocking off San Francisco's Shanna Dos Santos and Anna Sokiran (8-1). Between the three matches, Marker/Corley won 24 points and only lost seven.

Just minutes after sharing the same side of the court, Marker and Corley were dueling to decide the singles championship. While Corley played her heart out, Marker eventually came out victorious by taking the match in straight sets (6-2, 6-3).
Ā
Devin Chypyha also had a great day on the court as she won the consolation championship with a straight-set victory over UC Davis' Isabella Von Ebbe (6-1, 6-3).

UP NEXT: The Wildcat Invitational is next up on the fall schedule. The tournament, held at the University of Arizona, will get going on Friday, September 30.
