TUCSON, ARIZ. – On Friday, Feb. 17, the Wildcats completed the final round of the John Burns Intercollegiate in Lihue, Hawaii. The Cats finished in seventh place with a score of 863 (-1). 863 is the lowest team score for the Cats this year.
"We were very proud of the team's effort this week," commented head men's golf coach
Jim Anderson. "We got great production from different guys each round and we are very close to putting together a great finish for the week. Shooting under par as a team is something we haven't done a lot so we will build from here. Jordan (Gumberg) was outstanding all week as he stayed patient the entire tournament. I was also very proud of our freshmen as we had two subpar rounds from Briggs (Duce) and a sub-70 from David (Laskin), and both were career lows. This team looks to be poised to have another strong outing next week when we get to host at home in Tucson. Brad (Reeves) had a great week too and he will definitely be in the mix for more starts after weeks like this. I keep telling them; our freshmen can be as good as any group in the country. They are all so solid and when our veterans play like George (Cunningham) has and Jordan did this week, we will be a great team!"
Leading the Cats throughout the tournament was junior
Jordan Gumberg. The Fort Lauderdale native set a career low 18-hole score of 66 (-6) in the opening round of the tournament, and was never outside the top-10 throughout the competition. Gumberg will end the tournament leading the competition in par-4 scoring at 3.0 (-7) and ranked in the top five in birdies made with 16. The junior set a season low 54-hole score in Lihue with a 207 (-9), recording four of his 16 birdies on day three of the competition to finish in a tie for fifth place.
"The team is getting really close," commented Gumberg. "We are so close to really competing at every event. We had our best round today as a team and I think it showed that we have the skill level and are now starting to believe in ourselves. For me personally, I'm happy to see my name near the top of the leader board again. I put in a lot of hard work over winter break and to see it start paying off feels great! I'm looking forward to coming back to Tucson and teeing it up in our home event. I know our guys are excited for what this week has brought us, but we know that there is a lot we still need to work on."

Brad Reeves competed in the John Burns Intercollegiate as an individual. Reeves set a career low 18-hole score in the opening round of the tournament, and set a career low 54-hole score of 213 (-3).
