Cats Plate 21 Runs on 19 Hits to Defeat Drake

TUCSON, Ariz. -- No. 10 Arizona scored early and often, plating 21 runs on 19 hits, coming one hit shy of its first 20-hit game since 1998, as Arizona run-ruled Drake 21-0 on a rain soaked Saturday at the Wildcat Invitational.

Arizona's 19 hits were the most since May 19, 2003 vs. Texas A&M. The 21 runs mark UA's most since plating 22 vs. Stanford in 2015.

A 10-spot in the bottom of the first inning led the way for the Cats. Arizona had eight extra base hits, including three home runs on the night. Freshman Jessie Harper had two homers while classmate Alyssa Palomino hit her third in as many games.

Mandie Perez went 4-for-4 at the top of Arizona's lineup, her second career four-hit game.

Nearly everyone on the roster played for the Wildcats, except two pitchers and an injured player. Twelve different players had hits for UA.

Taylor McQuillin pitched a perfect three innings, and was credited with the win to move to 3-0 on the year. The sophomore fanned three of the nine batters she faced. Michelle Floyd pitched the final two innings and did not allow a run on two hits and two walks.

After waiting nearly four hours through two rain delays and a schedule change, the Cats and Bulldogs finally got underway at 6:27, with temperatures in the low 60s and wind and rain swirling. But Arizona came out hot, plating 10 runs on eight hits in the bottom of the first inning. Alyssa Palomino and Dejah Mulipola had two separate RBI base hits, including a two-run homer for Palomino, her third in as many games.

The Cats padded the lead with four runs in the second. Harper led off the frame with a homer, her third of the year.

UA would add two runs in the third and five runs in the fourth before purposely leaving first base early for the third and final out of the fourth inning.

Up Next: Due to a schedule change, Arizona plays North Dakota State and Boston College in a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. MST, two of four games on tap for the Wildcat Invitational. For a complete schedule, click here.
