Arizona Gymnastics Falls to No. 14 Washington

Seattle, Washington -- The No.25 Arizona GymCats fell to No. 14 Washington this afternoon with a score of 195.425 to 197.175. Arizona now holds an overall record of 6-4 and a Pac-12 record of 1-3.

"Rising up against adversity seems to be a theme for us this season" said head coach Tabitha Yim. "The will and spirit of this team is inspiring, and we are proud of the solid team effort throughout the day."

Arizona opened the meet on bars and saw big numbers from Christina Berg, Haylie Hendrickson, and Victoria Ortiz. Freshman Christina Berg earned a 9.825 and sophomore Haylie Hendrickson contributed a 9.850. Junior Victoria Ortiz claimed the bar title and earned a new season and career high with a 9.950. Ortiz is now tied for second in Arizona's individual bar score history with GymCat greats: Heidi Hornbeek, Marueen Kealey, Kara Fry, Nikki Beyschau, and Monica Bisordi.

The GymCats moved to vault in the second rotation leading the Huskies 49.150 to 49.075. Senior Selynna Felix-Terrazas matched her season-high 9.75 while sophomore Lauryn Mattson posted a career-high 9.825 for the third time this season. A poor landing on vault kept Skyler Sheppard out of the lineups for the rest of the competition, but freshmen Jenny Leung and Heather Swanson kept their composure each chipping in 9.700s.

For the third rotation, Arizona turned in a 48.600 on floor. Lauryn Mattson posted a 9.800 to lead off the event – her fifth score of 9.8 or higher this season. Krysten Howard and Kennady Schneider closed out the rotation with 9.750 and 9.775.

Arizona entered the final rotation trailing Washington and despite some outstanding routines were unable to overcome the deficit. With a team score of 49.000, the GymCats earned a new season-high beam score. Haylie Hendrickson collected a career high 9.875 to share third place honors while senior Krysten Howard tallied a season high 9.850. Kennady Schneider closed out the rotation strong with a career-best 9.850.
