TUCSON, Ariz. – Freshman
Matt Fraizer and senior
Michael Hoard both homered Tuesday as the Arizona Wildcats topped Korean professional team, NC Dinos, 13-1 at Hi Corbett Field in an exhibition matchup.
Â
The Wildcats pounded out 13 hits and had six pitchers combine to allow just one run on three hits in the victory over the Dinos' minor league squad.
Â
Arizona wasted no time getting their bats going Thursday when Fraizer hit a leadoff home run to open the scoring. The Cats scored three more runs in the inning, one off an RBI double from freshman
Shane Martinez and another two off a single from senior
Sawyer Gieseke.
Â
Starting pitcher
Tylor Megill pitched two scoreless innings and didn't allow a hit. He walked one and struck out two in a pair of strong innings.
Randy Labaut and
Ryan Gowens each pitched a scoreless inning behind Megill. NC Dinos got on the scoreboard in the fifth, but that was it.
Preston Price tossed two innings, allowing just the one run.
Robby Medel and
Luke Soroko finished it off on the mound with three combined scoreless innings.
Â
The strong pitching was a solid complement to Arizona's hot bats. Martinez added a sacrifice fly in the second for another run and fellow freshman
Cameron Cannon had a sacrifice fly in the third. Leading 6-1, the Cats did more damage in the bottom of the fifth. After Labaut had an RBI single, Hoard hit a three-run opposite field home run to plate
Cory Voss and Labaut to make it 10-1.
Â
The Cats added another in the seventh and two more in the eighth.
Â
Labaut went 3 for 4 with an BRI and two runs scored. Fraizer and Cannon each had two hits. Fraizer went 2 for 5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Cannon was 2 for 4 with two RBI and three runs scored. Martinez and Hoard each had three RBI.
Â
The Cats will now head on the road for the first time this season. Arizona will play in the Frisco Classic in Frisco, Texas starting Friday. The Cats will play Arkansas on Friday, Oklahoma State on Saturday and Nebraska on Sunday.
