TUCSON, AZ – Arizona Gymnastics fell to No. 14 Oregon State on Saturday night. The GymCats earned a team score of 195.375 but it wasn't enough to catch Oregon State's 196.200.
"We had a solid start at the beginning of the meet" said head coach
Tabitha Yim. "There were a couple of great bar routines and multiple girls stepped up to help on vault. We struggled on beam, but I'm confident that we'll be able to correct those errors by the end of season. Overall, we had multiple season and career highs tonight and as a staff we're proud of our girls."
Arizona opened the meet on vault with a team score of 48.875, a new season high.
Heather Swanson tied her career high of 9.850 and for the second week in a row sophomore
Skyler Sheppard earned a new career high on vault. She scored a 9.825 against Stanford last weekend and earned a 9.875 tonight.
The GymCats stepped up to compete on bars tonight. With a team score of 49.275 they earned a new season high bar score, the second highest was against Iowa State with a 49.225. Junior
Victoria Ortiz tied her career high with a score of 9.900 and
Danielle Spencer earned a new career high of 9.875. Senior Gabby Laub also earned a new season high of 9.850, which far surpassed her previous season high of 9.775.
Krysten Howard (9.825) and
Christina Berg (9.825) were also strong contributors.
Heading into third rotation the GymCats were tied to Oregon State with a pair of 98.025's. Arizona struggled to find a rhythm on beam but freshman
Courtney Cowles collected a new season and career high with a score of 9.800.
During the final rotation Arizona earned a team floor score of 48.975. Senior
Krysten Howard tied her career high of 9.900, a score she hasn't seen since her sophomore year.
Kennady Schneider and
Lauryn Mattson both tied their season highs with scores of a 9.875 (Schneider) and 9.825 (Mattson).
