HONOLULU, Hawaii – The seventh-ranked Arizona Beach Volleyball team concluded its first day of play at the Outrigger Hawaii Invitational. The team downed Nebraska, (3-2) and dropped to No. 4 Florida State (2-3).
Nebraska's Olivia Boender and Annika Albrecht began the match, by picking up a win against the Arizona No. 2 pair of
Olivia Macdonald and
Olivia Hallaran. (21-14, 21-14). No. 4 Wildcat pair,
Hailey Devlin and
Sam Manley, got off to a strong start as they defeated the Nebraska team of Tiani Reeves and Brooke Smith in consecutive sets, (21-7, 21-19). Not far behind, the Beach Cats', No. 1 twin duo of Madison and
McKenna Witt downed Justine Wong-Orantes and Andie Malloy, (21-16, 21-17). To clinch the win, UA's No. 5 tandem of
Halli Amaro and
Brooke Burling defeated Mikaela Foecke and Kenzie Maloney, (21-19, 21-17). The Wildcats No. 3 pair of
Mia Mason and
Kendra Dahlke would then go to take the match to three sets, but fell to Nebraska's, Lauren Stivrins and Kelly Hunter, (18-21, 21-18, 15-90.
Later that day, UA took on No. 4 Florida State to conclude the first day of action and fell, (2-3). FSU's Vanessa Freire and Victoria Paranagua earned a victory against Arizona's No. 2 pair of
Mia Mason ad
Kendra Dahlke, (21-10, 21-16). No. 3 duo of
Olivia Hallaran and
Olivia Macdonald fought hard, but fell to Macy Jerger and Sierra Sanchez, (21-13, 21-19). Madison and Mckenna Witt of the No. 1 team, picked up the Wldcats' first victory as they took down Brooke Kuhlman and Leigh Andrew, (21-12, 21-19). The No. 5 pair of
Brooke Burling and
Halli Amaro earned another victory for Arizona as they defeated Hailey Luke and Nikki Esposito, (21-19, 21-18). In a battle match, the No. 4 pair of
Hailey Devlin and
Sam Manley fell to FSU's, Katie Horton and Francesa Goncalves, (21-15, 18-21, 15-12).
The Cats will continue play tomorrow as they take on fellow Pac-12 school, No. 1 USC at 9:15 AM MST. Later that day UA will take on No. 5 Hawaii at 1 PM for the second time this season.
Arizona will go on to conclude the weekend of play as they hit the sand against Utah at 3:30 PM MST.
