TUCSON, Ariz. – The Wildcats improved to 3-0 after sweeping the second day of the Candrea Classic. No. 12 Arizona run-ruled Kansas and Long Beach State on Friday.
Game 1 | Arizona 15, Kansas 2 (5 innings)
Arizona won its first run-rule game of the day 15-2 against the Jayhawks.
Allie Skaggs went 3-for-3 with four RBI and
Devyn Netz went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Carlie Scupin had four RBI in the win.
Skaggs drove in Arizona's first run with an RBI double in the first inning. The Cats scored five runs in the second. Skaggs had a two-RBI single and
Tayler Biehl drove in a run on a fielder's choice. Scupin drew an RBI walk and Netz was hit by a pitch to bring in a run.
The Wildcats' offense exploded for seven runs in the third inning. Well-timed RBI singles from
Blaise Biringer, Skaggs, and Netz drove in three runs for the Cats. Scupin had a two-RBI single and
Dakota Kennedy brought in Arizona's 13th run of the game with an RBI groundout.
Arizona added two more runs in the fourth to extend Arizona's lead. Kansas scored two runs in the third on a home run.
Ali Blanchard (1-0) picked up her first win in her first appearance for Arizona. The senior transfer struck out two batters through 3.0 innings. Freshman
Sydney Somerndike debuted in the final two innings of the game, retiring five of six batters faced.
Game 2 | Arizona 9, LBSU 1 (5 innings)
The Wildcats earned their second mercy-rule victory of the day with a 9-1 win over Long Beach State. Arizona drove in nine runs on 10 hits and three Wildcats went 2-for-3 in the win.
In the first inning, Arizona scored two runs on wild pitches. The Wildcats scored five runs in the second. Biringer had her second RBI single of the day and Scupin hit another two-RBI single.
Jasmine Perezchica scored on a wild pitch and Netz hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Arizona's seventh run of the game.
The Beach scored on a sac-fly in the fourth for their only run of the game. In the fifth, freshman
Kaiah Altmeyer and Biringer each hit RBI singles to secure the run-rule victory for the Wildcats.
Netz earned the win to improve to 2-0. She struck out four batters through 4.0 innings.
Aissa Silva made her debut in the fifth inning and struck out one batter.
