TUCSON, Ariz. – The Wildcats lost the second game of the series against California, 8-6, on Saturday night.
Devyn Netz went 2-for-4 and hit her 13th home run of the season.
Blaise Biringer went 3-for-4 and
Izzy Pacho led Arizona with two RBI.
Cal opened the game with a solo home run to take an early lead that the Golden Bears never relinquished. In the second, Cal extended its lead with a two-run home run.
The Golden Bears took a 6-0 lead in the top of the fourth on a bases-loaded hit by pitch and back-to-back bases-loaded walks.
In the bottom of the fourth, Arizona strung together four singles to plate three and cut into Cal's lead. Pacho had a pinch-hit bases-loaded two-RBI single to put the Cats on the board. Arizona added one more run on a throwing error by Cal.
The Golden Bears scored two more in the sixth but Arizona answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Biringer scored on a fielding error and
Logan Cole hit an RBI single to help the Cats cut into Cal's 8-5 lead.
Netz held Cal scoreless in the top seventh and hit her solo home run in the bottom of the inning but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback.
Sydney Somerndike pitched the first 2.0 innings, giving up three runs to take the loss and fall to 4-2 on the season.
Brianna Hardy entered in the third and gave up two runs in 1.2 IP.
Aissa Silva relieved Hardy in the fourth inning with the bases loaded and gave up one run before Netz entered to get the Cats out of the inning. Netz pitched the final 3.1 innings, giving up two runs in 13 batters faced.
