TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona won the final game of the regular series, 9-4, over California to improve to 28-24 (6-18 Pac-12). With the win, the Cats secured the eight-seed in the Pac-12 Tournament.
Dakota Kennedy and
Carlie Scupin hit back-to-back home runs in the third inning to push Arizona past Cal. Four Wildcats had two hits, including freshmen
Kaiah Altmeyer and
Logan Cole. Kennedy also had a pair of hits and drove in four RBI to lead Arizona.
Cal scored one run in the first on an RBI single that Scupin answered with an RBI single to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning.
Arizona plated two in the second to take a 3-1 lead. Kennedy drove in her first run of the game with an RBI single and Scupin followed with an RBI fielder's choice.
The Cats exploded for six runs in the third to extend their lead to 9-1. With the bases loaded for Cole, she drove in two runs. Kennedy then hit a three-run home run and Scupin followed with a solo homer – the 10th home run of the season for both Kennedy and Scupin.
Cal scored three in the top of the fourth on a solo home run, a groundout and a single before
Devyn Netz shut down the Golden Bears.
Netz held Cal scoreless the rest of the game, allowing only four baserunners to earn the win and improve to 15-15. She struck out six batters in her 12th complete-game effort.
