2017-18: Had the third fastest team time in the 100 free and 200 free with 43.53 and 1:35.65, respectively…Had the fourth fastest time on the team in the 100 fly (46.64) and 400 IM (3:48.35)…Earned a team-high five individual NCAA B cuts (100 free, 200 free, 100 fly, 200 IM, 400 IM)…A member of Pac-12 All-Academic First Team…CSCAA Scholar All-American Honorable Mention.
2016-17: An honorable mention CSCAA Scholar All-American and member of the Pac-12 All-Academic first team ... Posted the second fastest times in the 200y freestyle (1:35.12),
200y IM (1:46.43) and 400y IM (3:47.93), all NCAA B cuts ... Also swam the 100y freestyle, 100y butterfly and 200y butterfly ... Had three top-three finishes in the 200y freestyle, including in vs. ASU (1:37.23) ... At the Texas Invitational, finished fifth in the 200y butterfly (1:45.25), sixth in the 400 IM (3:47.93) and 12th in the 200y IM (1:46.93) ... At the Pac-12 Championships, placed 10th in the 200y freestyle (1:35.12) and 17th in both the 200y fly (1:46.17) and 200y IM (1:46.43).
2015-16: Named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team...Had the fastest time on the team in the 200 free with 1:34.81...Placed third in the 400 IM against No. 18 USC (4:04.35) and fourth in the 100 y versus No. 5 Stanford (51.67)...At the Pac-12 Championships, finished sixth in the 200 free (1:35.21) and second in the B final of the 200 y (1:45.62)...Took 17th in the 800 free relay at NCAA Championships with 6:20.73...At the Texas Invitational, came in first in the 800 free relay for an NCAA ‘B’ cut (6:22.76)...Individually at the Texas Invite, placed eighth in the 200 free (1:36.64), second in the B final of the 500 free (4:22.04) and seventh in the B final of the 200 y (1:48.19).
Prior to Arizona: A member of the Italian Olympic Team at the 2012 London Olympics, he placed eleventh in the 4x200 free relay...Won two gold medals at the 2012 European Junior Championships in Antwerp, Belgium in the 200 free and 4x200 free relay...Set a European Junior record at the Championships in the 4x200 free relay with the first-place finish...Won a silver medal in the 4x200 free relay at the 2012 European Championships in Debrecen, Hungary...Member of the Italian National Team...Won over 30 national titles in Italy...Spent a year in Missouri competing at Park Hill South High School as an exchange student...Was a state champion in the 200-500 free and 200 medley relay...Currently holds the state record in the 200 free...Set school records that year in every event but the 100 back and 100 breast.
Personal: Born Riccardo Maestri in April of 1994 to Roberto Maestri and Marine Puccio... Planned major in Engineering...Likes to listen to music and hang out with friends, but says “what’s free time?”...Chose Arizona over USC, Florida, Michigan, Tennessee, NC State and Georgia because of the great academics and athletics, and he loved the coaches, campus and facilities.
