TUCSON, Ariz.--- Mesa Community College transfer Harry Busby has signed a National Letter of Intent to play tennis at the University of Arizona beginning with the 2015-16 academic year, head coach Tad Berkowitz announced on Friday.
The Birmingham, England native comes to Arizona as one of the highest regarded junior college transfers in the country, as he finished his freshman season at Cowley County College (Arkansas City, Kan.) as the No. 2 ranked player in the nation. He advanced to the final round of NJCAA nationals and posted a 9-4 record against ranked opponents that season, including going 4-3 against top-10 individuals on his way to earning All-America honors. He played every dual match from the No. 1 position.
"I'm very excited Harry decided to become a Wildcat,” said Berkowitz. “He is a fierce competitor, an extremely hard worker and watching him play you can definitely tell he has been well coached throughout his tennis career. I anticipate great things from Harry during his career at Arizona."
Prior to playing collegiate tennis, Busby was regarded as one of the best players in his country, as he represented Great Britain on the national team and has been placed as high as the No. 836 player in the world.
After spending a year at Cowley CC, Busby transferred to Mesa Community where he is currently competing.
Busby will join an Arizona squad already balanced with young talent and veteran leadership, as the roster will sport four seniors, two juniors, and three sophomores once he's added to the mix.
