The 2001 Arizona Softball team finished the year 65-4 game winning streak overall and capped a 26 game winning streak to deliver the school's sixth National Softball Championship. The 'Cats opened with a 3-2 win over California, overcame a 4-0 deficit to win 5-4 in eight innings over defending  national champ Oklahoma,  and then beat Stanford 1-0 in the semifinals before meeting UCLA. In the title game, Lindsey Collins hit a solo homer that would eventually give the 'Cats their 1-0 victory. It was fitting that the national championship game was decided on a home run. The Wildcats set a NCAA recor6. Toni Mascarenas led all players with 25. Mascarenas, Collins, and Nicole Girodano were named to the College World Series All- Tournament Team and junior, Jenny Finch, was named Most Outstanding Player. Finch went 32-0 on the season for the best record in NCAA history without defeat. Arizona placed five players on the All-American team, five players on the All-Pacific -10 Conference honors. Coach Mike Candrea earned Pac-10-Co-Coach of the Year honors, his 15th consecutive conference, regional or national coaching honor in his 16 years a UA's head coach d for homers in a season with 12.
