The Arizona freshman won the men's 8K while the women's squad finished fifth in the team race. Both Wildcat squads scored points in the State Farm Territorial Cup race by beating ASU.
The men's race will begin at 9 a.m. and the women will run at 10 a.m.
2012: Indoors, Souza ran the mile at the Razorback Invitational, clocking a time of 4:26.03, taking 26th place in his only race of the indoor season ... Outdoors, Souza posted a personal-best time of 1:54.69 in the 800-meter run at the Willie Williams Classic ... Also at the Willie Williams Classic, Souza clocked a personal-best time of 9:58.51 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
2011 (XC): At the George Kyte Classic, Souza took 29th place with a time of 29:16.5 in the 8,000-meter race ... He finished in 32nd at the Dave Murray Invitational, clocking a time of 23:06 in the 8K race ... At the Grand Canyon Invitational, Souza's time of 25:52.8 was good for the 9th in the 8K race ... He finished in 74th place at the Pac-12 Championships, posting an 8K time of 27:04.
HIGH SCHOOL: At Catalina Foothills High School, Souza won the 2011 Arizona State Championship in the 800 meters with a time of 1:53.40 ... Souza was also the 2011 Arizona State Championships runner-up at 400 meters with a time of 49.13 ... He was selected as the 2011 Tucson Citizen Southern Arizona Track Athlete of the Year ... Also the Arizona Daily Star Track Athlete of the Year ... He was also a member of the 2010 and 2011 Arizona State Champion 4x400-meter relays, running the anchor leg ... He was the Willie Williams Classic 800-meter Champion in 2010 ... He holds school records in the 400 meters and 800 meters.
