TUCSON - The University of Arizona Wildcats No. 9 men's and No. 12 women's track and field teams will start the 2013 indoor season on Jan. 14 with the Lumberjack Invitational in Flagstaff, Ariz. The meet will take place at Northern Arizona's J.L. Walkup Skydome. The field events start at 9 a.m. MST, the running portion starts at 10 a.m.
Arizona will compete against Arizona State (M: No. 6, W: NR), Northern Arizona (M: No. 21, W: NR), New Mexico, Grand Canyon and Southern Utah will be competing on Saturday.
In the 2013 USTFCCCA preseason national poll, the Arizona men are ranked ninth and the women are ranked No. 12. Four other Pac-12 schools join the Arizona men in the national poll. Oregon is ranked fifth, Arizona State is sixth, Stanford is 15th, and UCLA is 19th.
On the women's side, Arizona is accompanied by four other Pac-12 schools. Oregon is No. 3, California is No. 9, Washington is No. 10 and Stanford is No. 13.
On the men's side, sophomore Jovon Cunningham will compete in the men's long jump at 10:30 a.m. and the men's high jump at 1 p.m. Senior Edgar Rivera-Morales will also compete in the high jump. Senior Clifton Leake and sophomore Siraaj Ghori will compete in the 400-meter run at 12:20 p.m. Junior Sean Delfani is slated to compete in the 800-meter run at 11:35 a.m. The quartet of freshman Branden Helms, Ghori, freshman Bernard Dickerson-Quinnand Delfani will compete in the 4x400-meter relay at 2 p.m.
For the women, junior Omotayo Talabi, senior Taylor Freeman, junior Alyssa Hasslen and junior Amber Passalaqua will compete in the shot put at 9 a.m. Additionally, Freeman will compete in the weight throw at 12 p.m. Passalaqua will also compete in the long jump along with sophomore Shakayla McEaddy. McEaddy is the Wildcats' lone representative in the high jump competition which is set to start at 11 a.m. Senior Georganne Moline is set to run the 60-meter dash at 10:20 a.m. along with juniors Tamara Pridgett, Shapri Romero and Germe Poston. Moline will also compete in the 800-meter run at 11:35 a.m. Pridgett, Romero, Poston and junior Shale' Garlandare all set to run the 200-meter dash at 12:50 p.m.
The UA women return three All-Americans from the team that earned a runner-up finish at the MPSF Championships and took 11th place at the NCAA Championships. Senior Julie Labonté earned All-America accolades in the shot put for the second-straight year and Senior Brigetta Barrett was the high jump champion for the second-straight year. Junior Elvin Kibetearned All-America honors in the 5,000-meter race.
On the men's side, Arizona welcomes back three Indoor All-Americans from the team that finished fourth at the MPSF Championships and third at the NCAA Championships. The men's third-place finish was the best finish in program history at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Junior Lawi Lalang claimed NCAA titles in the 3K and 5K. Senior Nick Ross, who is redshirting the 2013 indoor season, claimed an NCAA title in the men's high jump, the first men's high jump title in program history. Senior Edgar Rivera-Morales also earned All-America accolades in the men's high jump.
