TUCSON - The Arizona Wildcat No. 14 men's and No. 13 women's track and field teams will compete in the 54th Annual Mt. SAC Relays. The competition will take place in Walnut, Calif. at Hilmer Lodge Stadium on April 19-21. On Thursday, the distance races will begin at 2 p.m. MST. On Friday, competition begins at 10 a.m. MST. Competition will resume on Saturday at 11 a.m. MST.
The No. 14 Arizona men and No. 13 women will compete against a plethora of teams this weekend. Arizona State (M: 8, W: 16), Arkansas (M: 6, W: 6), Oregon (M: 13, W: 1), Southern California (M: 11, W: 4), UCLA (M: NR, W: NR), Washington (M: NR, W: NR), Washington State (M: NR, W: NR) and many others will compete this weekend.
In the current 2012 USTFCCCA national poll, the Arizona men sit at the No. 14 spot and the women are 13th. The UA men are joined by four other Pac-12 schools in the national poll. Arizona State dropped a spot to No. 8, Southern California remains No. 11, Oregon is still 13th and Stanford dropped one spot to 17th. On the women's side, four fellow Pac-12 schools accompany Arizona in the national poll. Oregon remains at No. 1, Southern California stayed at the No. 4 spot, Arizona State dropped one spot to No. 16 and Stanford climbed two spots to 20th.
On Thursday, juniors Elizabeth Apgar and Melanie McGrath will run the open 1,500-meter race at 2 p.m. Senior Stephen Sambu will compete in the 10,000-meter invitational at 8:40 p.m. Junior Hanna Henson will run the 10K at 9:15 p.m.
On Friday, junior Tyler Johnson will throw the hammer at 10:00 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., junior Taylor Freeman will throw the shot put. At 5:30 p.m., Freeman and junior Alyssa Hasslen will throw the discus. Freeman and senior Taylor Bush will compete in the hammer throw at 2 p.m. At 11:30 a.m., freshmen Jovon Cunningham will compete in the triple jump. Juniors Georganne Moline and Shale' Garland will run the 400 meters at 11:35 a.m. Junior James Eichberger will run the 800 meters at 2:50 p.m. Sophomores Tamara Pridgett, Germe Poston and Shapri Romero will run the 200 meters along with Garland and seniors Echos Blevins and Dahlys Marshall. Junior Jen Bergman and sophomore Elvin Kibet will run the 5K at 8 p.m. Sophomore Lawi Lalang will run 5K invitational at 9:10 p.m.
On Saturday, Romero and Blevins will compete in the 400-meter run at 12:10 p.m. Hasslen will compete in the shot put invitational at 1 p.m. Junior Brigetta Barrett will compete in the high jump invitational at 1:30 p.m. The women's 4x100-meter relay team will consist of Marshall, Garland, Pridgett and Poston. The quartet of freshman Thomas Moronta, junior Chris McSwain, sophomore Sean Delfani and junior Clifton Leake will run the men's 4x100-meter relay at 1:45 p.m. Juniors Edgar Rivera-Morales and Nick Ross are set to compete in the high jump invitational at 4 p.m. Moline will compete in the 400-meter hurdles invitational at 5:05 p.m.
