TUCSON - The University of Arizona Wildcat No. 13 men's and No. 8 women's track and field teams will host the Arizona-Arizona State-Northern Arizona Double Dual. The competition will take place at Roy P. Drachman Stadium on Saturday, April 28. The field events will begin at 4 p.m. MST and the running events will start at 6 p.m. Arizona will also send two runners to the Payton Jordan Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. at Stanford's Cobb Track and Angell Field. The men's 1,500-meter race will occur at 7:46 p.m. MST on Sunday, April 29. The women's 10K will take place at 9:08 p.m.
The No. 13 Arizona men and No. 8 women will compete against Arizona State (M: 3, W: 10) and Northern Arizona (M: NR, W: NR). At the Payton Jordan Invitational, UA will compete against Colorado (M: NR, W: NR), Stanford (M: 18, W: 20), Virginia Tech (M: 17, W: NR), Wisconsin (M: 21, W: NR) and many other teams as well.
In the current 2012 USTFCCCA national poll, the Arizona men sit at the No. 13 spot and the women are eighth. The UA men are joined by four other Pac-12 schools in the national poll. Arizona State moved up five spots to No. 3, Southern California jumped five spots to No. 6, Stanford dropped one spot to 18th and Oregon fell nine spots to 22nd. On the women's side, four fellow Pac-12 schools accompany Arizona in the national poll. Oregon fell four spots to No. 5, Arizona State climbed six spots to No. 10, Stanford climbed stayed at No. 20 and USC fell 20 spots to No. 24.
On the women's side, senior Taylor Bush, the school-record holder in the women's hammer throw, will compete at 4 p.m. along with junior Taylor Freeman. Freeman will also compete in the discus throw with junior Alyssa Hasslen at 5 p.m. That pair will also throw the shot put at 6:30 p.m. Sophomore Alex Weatherly will compete in the pole vault at 6 p.m. Junior Brigetta Barrett will compete in the women's high jump at 7 p.m. The women's 4x100-meter relay team will consist of sophomore Tamara Pridgett, sophomore Germe Poston, junior Shale' Garland and senior Dahlys Marshall. Sophomore Elvin Kibet will run the women's 1,500-meter race at 6:45 p.m. and the 3,000 meters at 8:45 p.m. In the 400-meter race, UA will run sophomore Shapri Romero, senior Echos Blevins and Garland at 7:25 p.m. Pridgett and Poston will run the 100-meter dash at 7:40 p.m. Junior Georganne Moline will run the 400-meter hurdles at 8:10 p.m. Romero, Poston, Pridgett, Blevins and Garland will all run the 200 meters at 8:30 p.m. The quartet of Romero, Blevins, Pridgett and Moline will run the 4x400-meter relay. Senior Liana Fuentes and sophomore Amber Passalaqua will compete in the shot put, javelin, long jump, high jump and 100-meter hurdles. Junior Jen Bergman will run the 10,000 meters at the Payton Jordan Invitational on Sunday at 9:08 p.m.
For the men, junior Tyler Johnson will compete in the hammer throw at 5 p.m. Sophomore Bozidar Antunovic will throw the discus at 6:30 p.m. and the shot put at 8 p.m. Junior Nick Ross and freshman Jovon Cunningham will compete in the long jump at 6 p.m. and the triple jump at 7:30 p.m. Ross and junior Edgar Rivera-Morales will high jump at 8:30 p.m. The quartet of freshman Thomas Moronta, junior Chris McSwain, freshman Garic Wharton and sophomore Sean Delfani will run the men's 4x100-meter relay. Senior Stephen Sambu will run the men's 1,500-meter race at 6:55 p.m. and the 3K at 9 p.m. Wharton and McSwain will run the 100-meter dash at 7:47 p.m. and the 200 meters at 8:37 p.m. Junior James Eichberger will run the 800-meter race at 8:02 p.m. The 4x400-meter relay team will include junior Clifton Leake, McSwain, Eichberger and Delfani. Sophomore Lawi Lalang will run the men's 1,500-meter race at the Payton Jordan Invitational on Sunday at 7:46 p.m.
The Arizona men have six marks that currently sit in the top 10 in the country. Sophomore Lawi Lalang's time of 3:41.65 in the 1,500-meter run is the eighth-best time in the country. Lalang also has the No. 2 time in the 5,000 meters, clocking a personal-best time of 13:18.88 last weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays. Senior Stephen Sambu has the fourth-best time in the 5,000 meters; he ran 13:31.51 at the Stanford Invitational. Sambu holds the No. 1 time in the country for the 10K, his time of 28:06.16 is currently the second-best time in the world. Juniors Nick Ross and Edgar Rivera-Morales are tied for the second-best mark in the country. They both have cleared 7-4.50 (2.25m) in the high jump.
On the women's side, Arizona holds six marks that sit in the top 10. Junior Jen Bergman holds the No. 10 time in the country in the 10,000 meters; she ran the race at 33:10.87. Junior Georganne Moline holds the top spot in 400-meter hurdles, her school-record time of 55.25 is also the No. 2 time in the world. Arizona's 4x400-meter relay team of sophomore Tamara Pridgett, senior Echos Blevins, senior Ariel Coleman and Moline hold the No. 10 time in the country, 3:34.37. Junior Brigetta Barrett holds the top high jump mark in the country, her clearance of 6-4.75 (1.95m) is also tied for the best mark in the world. Junior Alyssa Hasslen hold the top mark in the shot put, her personal-best toss of 60-2.5 (18.35m) is also the second-best mark in UA history. Senior Taylor Bush's school-record toss of 209-3 (63.78m) at the Mt. SAC Relays is the No. 8 mark in the country.
