TUCSON - The University of Arizona Wildcat No. 14 men's and No. 9 women's track and field teams will compete in the main portion of the Pac-12 Championships. The meet will take place in Eugene, Ore. at Hayward Field on May 12-13. The field events begin on Saturday at 10 a.m. MST and the running events start at 1:25 p.m. On Sunday, the field events are set to start 10:45 a.m. and the running events will begin at 1 p.m.
The Arizona men and women will compete against Arizona State (M: 5, W: 10), California (M: NR, W: NR), Colorado (M: NR, W: NR), Oregon (M: 22, W: 7), Oregon State (M: NR, W: NR), Stanford (M: 18, W: 14), UCLA (M: NR, W: NR), USC (M: 7, W: 16), Utah (M: NR, W: NR), Washington (M: NR, W: NR), Washington State (M: NR, W: NR).
On the men's side, the 4x100-meter relay team will consist of freshman Thomas Moronta, junior Chris McSwain, freshman Garic Wharton and sophomore Sean Delfani. The preliminary race is set for 1:25 p.m. on Saturday and the final is at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Sophomore Lawi Lalang will run the preliminary race of the 1,500 meters on Saturday at 1:45 p.m. The final is set for 1:15 p.m. on Sunday. Lalang and senior Stephen Sambu will run the 5,000-meter final at 3:20 p.m. on Sunday. Sambu will run the 10k final at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Junior James Eichberger will run the preliminary 800-meter race at 4:10 p.m. on Saturday with the final taking place at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. The 100-meter dash preliminary race at 3:40 p.m. on Saturday will feature McSwain, Moronta, Wharton and freshman Mohammad Alhasan. The final is at 2:15 p.m. on Sunday. McSwain and Wharton will also compete in the preliminary race of the 200-meter dash at 5:50 p.m. on Saturday. The final is 3:05 p.m. on Sunday. The quartet of junior Clifton Leake, McSwain, Eichberger and Delfani will run the 4x400-meter relay at 4 p.m. on Sunday. Juniors Nick Ross and Edgar Rivera-Morales will compete in the high jump at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Ross and freshman Jovon Cunningham are set to compete in the long jump on Saturday at 2:05 p.m. and the triple jump at 12:10 p.m. on Sunday. Sophomore Bozidar Antunovic will throw the shot put at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
For the women, the 4x100-meter relay team will include sophomore Tamara Pridgett, sophomore Germe Poston, junior Shale' Garland and senior Dahlys Marshall. The preliminary race is set for 1:35 p.m. on Saturday and the final is at 1:07 p.m. on Sunday. Senior Echos Blevins, sophomore Shapri Romero and Garland will run the preliminary 400-meter race on Saturday at 3:20 p.m. The final is at 2:05 p.m. on Sunday. Blevins, Romero, Poston and Pridgett will run the 200-meter dash at 6:10 p.m. The final is on Sunday at 3:12 p.m. On Saturday, junior Georganne Moline will run the 400-meter hurdles at 5:35 p.m. with the final taking place at 2:55 p.m. on Sunday. Sophomore Elvin Kibet and junior Jen Bergman will run the 10k final at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday and the 5,000-meter final at 3:40 p.m. on Sunday. The quartet of Romero, Blevins, Pridgett and Moline will run the 4x400-meter relay at 4:15 p.m. on Sunday. Senior Taylor Bush and junior Taylor Freeman will throw the hammer at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Freeman and junior Alyssa Hasslen will throw the shot put 3:05 p.m. on Saturday. Freeman and Hasslen will also throw the discus at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday. Junior Brigetta Barrett will compete in the high jump at 1:40 p.m. on Sunday.
The Arizona men have six marks that currently sit in the top 10 in the country. Sophomore Lawi Lalang's school-record time of 3:36.77 in the 1,500-meter run is the top collegiate time in the country. Lalang also has the No. 2 time in the 5,000 meters, clocking a personal-best time of 13:18.88 at the Mt. SAC Relays. Senior Stephen Sambu has the fifth-best time in the 5,000 meters; he ran 13:31.51 at the Stanford Invitational. Sambu holds the No. 4 time in the country for the 10K, he clocked a time of 28:06.16. Juniors Nick Ross and Edgar Rivera-Morales are tied for the second-best mark in the country. They both have cleared 7-4.5 (2.25m) in the high jump.
On the women's side, Arizona holds five marks that sit in the top 10. Junior Georganne Moline holds the top spot in 400-meter hurdles, her school-record time of 55.25 is also the No. 2 time in the world. Arizona's 4x400-meter relay team of sophomore Shapri Romero, senior Echos Blevins, sophomore Tamara Pridgett and Moline hold the No. 7 time in the country, 3:33.17. Junior Brigetta Barrett holds the top high jump mark in the country, her clearance of 6-4.75 (1.95m) is also tied for the second-best mark in the world. Junior Alyssa Hasslen hold the top mark in the shot put, her personal-best toss of 60-2.5 (18.35m) is also the second-best mark in UA history. Senior Taylor Bush's school-record toss of 209-3 (63.78m) at the Mt. SAC Relays is the No. 8 mark in the country.
Arizona has four student-athletes that have met the Olympic "A" or "B" Standards during the current outdoor season. On the men's side, sophomore Lawi Lalang's time of 13:18.88 in the 5,000-meter race meets the "A" Standard (13:20.00). Lalang's school-record time of 3:36.77 meets the "B" Standard (3:38.00). For the women, junior Georganne Moline met the "A" Standard (55.50) with her school-record time of 55.25. That mark is the No. 3 time in the world. Junior Brigetta Barrett cleared 6-4.75 (1.95m) in the high jump, meeting the "A" Standard (6-4.75). Junior Alyssa Hasslen's throw of 60-2.5 (18.35m) met the "A" Standard (60-0.5).
