Athletics Director Greg Byrne's weekly email discussing Wildcat Athletics
Feb. 27, 2013
SPRING FOOTBALL IS HERE The 2013 football season starts Saturday with the first spring practice. Last year at this time, the coaching staff and returning players were still trying to get a feel for one another. This year, thanks to two camps and a full season under their belts, the spring practices should be much more efficient. There will be two opportunities for fans to get a glimpse of the 2013 Wildcats. The first is a scrimmage for our Phoenix-area fans on Friday, March 29. The team will practice and scrimmage at Phoenix College beginning at 7 p.m. Gates will open at 6 p.m. The annual Spring Game will be on Saturday, April 13 with a 1 p.m. start and 12 p.m. gate. Due to the FieldTurf installation process we won't be able to host the Spring Game in Arizona Stadium. It will be at Kindall Field/Sancet Stadium. There is no charge for admission or parking for either event. Look for more information to come soon. If you're interested in staying current with the installation of the new FieldTurf, or haven't seen the progress being made on the Lowell-Stevens Football facility, check out our Arizona Stadium web cam. Customer service representatives are available at 520-621-2287, Monday through Friday from 9am until 5pm, to answer any questions you may have about the new Club and north end zone seating areas. ANOTHER RIVALRY EVENT THIS WEEK - GYMNASTICS The next Territorial Cup Series event vs. our rivals is a Saturday gymnastics meet in McKale. It's a Rivalry Red Out, Make sure to wear red to the meet. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the meet starts at 7 p.m. Remember, you can save $2 per ticket when you purchase in advance. A-CLUB LETTERWINNER UPDATE Candace Abrams, softball letterwoman class of 2005, has recently been hired on as the head softball coach at Division II Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction, Colo. Candace is working hard to develop a championship program on and off the field. Arizona will always be home to Candace, she has very strong ties to the athletics department; "Arizona means family, home, a place that helped me grow and shaped me into the coach and person I am today. I plan to stay involved in any way that I can, staying involved in the A-Club, and attending as many events and supporting my Wildcat family any way I can." Seat backs at arizona stadium If you plan to attend our home football games next year (and we sure hope you do!) you can reserve a seatback rental for the 2013 season. Call 877-794-6418 to order. These padded seats are attached to the bench and comfortably define your seat for every game. As a reminder, personal seatbacks are allowed in Arizona Stadium. However, if your seatback has armrests, pouches and/or cup holders that unsafely impede the walkway, or are wider than the typical seat (generally 18 inches in width) you may be asked to store your seatback for the duration of the game. We've received complaints in the past about fans bringing oversized seatbacks that take up a lot of space or lean back too far. Bear Down with Pride, and please keep the seatbacks at a reasonable size to ensure all fans have an enjoyable experience in the stadium. Thank you for your cooperation.
