Wildcat Wednesday - 3/13/13

March 13, 2013

MARCH MADNESS BEGINS

This is always an exciting time of the year, and March Madness and Arizona basketball go hand-in-hand! I'm in Las Vegas to support Coach Miller and the team, along with thousands of Arizona Wildcats. It's great to see so many of our fans wearing the colors.  If you are not able to make the trip we hope you'll enjoy the game whereever you'll be watching or listening.  A great source of information is this Pac-12 webpage where you can keep tabs on all of the 2013 Pac-12 Basketball Tournament action.

Not that I need to remind any of you, but the NCAA Tournament selection show is live on CBS on Sunday at 3 p.m. Tucson time. (We are not hosting a public watch party for the show.) We will have a limited amount of NCAA tournament tickets to sell to Wildcat Club members and season ticket holders. Ticket requests will be fulfilled using the Priority Point System. Orders are due on Sunday by 2 p.m.
Click here for more information. If the college basketball regular season is any indication, this year's tournament is going to be wild. It's time to Bear Down, survive and advance. Go Cats!

Please share your excitement and photos on Twitter (@AZAthletics) and Facebook (facebook.com/ArizonaAthletics).

AUXILIARY VIDEO BOARD COMING TO ARIZONA STADIUM IN 2014

As part of the improvements being made to Arizona Stadium we are planning to install an auxiliary video board in the northwest corner.  With the construction of the Lowell-Stevens Football Facility the foundation is now in place to support the auxiliary board. However, it cannot be installed for the 2013 season without compromising the new concrete foundation.  We know this second video board will be a terrific addition for the 2014 season and provide needed additional viewing options around the stadium. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

BUS TRANSPORTATION FOR FOOTBALL

We are actively pursuing different options to provide bus transportation to Arizona Stadium on football game days for the 2013 season.  We will provide you with any updates as we have them. In the next couple of weeks we should have our 2013 parking maps finalized, which we'll share with you.  Included will be the public parking options, some of which are relatively close to Arizona Stadium.

HIGH HONOR FOR WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING

After a successful showing last week at the Pac-12 Championships, the
women's swimming and diving program was honored for its work in the classroom by earning College Swimming Coaches' Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-American status. The CSCAA presents the Team Scholar All-American award to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The Wildcats combined to earn eight Pac-12 titles in Federal Way, Wash. Junior Margo Geer led the way for the women's team as she was part of all five titles. The women won championships in the 200 medley relay, 200 free relay, 400 medley relay and Geer added individual titles in the 50 free and 100 free. Freshman diver Rafael Quintero won a title in the platform diving competition. Meanwhile, sophomore Kevin Cordes continued his dominance by winning a Pac-12 title in both the 100 and 200 breast events.  The Wildcats are now preparing for the NCAA Championships, which will take place March 21-23 (women) and March 28-30 (men).

WILDCAT CLUB:  COMING SOON--WILDCAT MOVEMENT
This week we started filming our next Wildcat Movement video.  For those of you who have previously "Joined the Movement" by making a tax-deductible donation of $100 or more, thank you!  Each year, we hope that you'll re-join and encourage others to do the same.

Each spring we use the
Wildcat Movement
as a centerpiece of our fundraising efforts to encourage everybody to get involved and become Wildcat Club members.  A large part of our success as a department is due to the generosity of our donors who provide financial support for our student-athletes to succeed on and off the playing surface.  The newest video will be released in the weeks to come, but here's a sneak peak at some of the faces that will be making an appearance...
