TUCSON - Four University of Arizona academic standouts were named Student-Athletes of the Month for January/February 2013. Freshman Bonnie Brandon of women's swimming, redshirt freshman Xavier Borde of baseball, junior Candace Nicholson of volleyball and junior Giles Smith of men's swimming were honored by Arizona's C.A.T.S. Academics staff.

While Nicholson is currently training with her squad in the offseason for her upcoming senior campaign, Brandon, Borde and Smith have their competitive seasons in full swing. The baseball team will play their first Pac-12 road series this weekend at Oregon. Brandon is at her first NCAA Championships as a Wildcat, competing Thursday-Saturday in Indianapolis, Ind. Smith's men's squad will compete at the NCAA Championships March 28-30.

UA student-athletes are recognized for their outstanding academic effort, demonstrating academic improvement, solid academic performance and evidence of personal character, integrity and standing out as a role model.
