TUCSON - Four Wildcat student-athletes have been cited for their work during UA's summer school period, earning Student-Athlete of the Month honors.

The students were selected by the C.A.T.S. Academics staff based on four different criteria - outstanding effort, demonstrated improvement, overall academic performance and consistent citizenship through personal character, integrity and role-model actions.

The honorees, the first for the 2008-09 school year:

Baseball junior Daniel Butler, track junior Jasmin Day, soccer junior Laura Huylebroeck and football junior Xavier Smith.

"We applaud these four student-athletes and all of their contemporaries for the increased effort we've seen in their scholastic performances," said UA athletics director Jim Livengood.

"It's nice to see a group cited for its work during the summer - a great time to take advantage of a somewhat slower sport-training pace. I'm encouraged that this is just the start of a great year for the Cats in the classroom," he said.
