Athletics Director Greg Byrne's weekly email discussing Wildcat Athletics
Athletics Director Greg Byrne
Nov. 25, 2010
We wish the very best to you and yours for the Thanksgiving holiday. There are many things for which we're thankful, and your continued enthusiasm and support are two of them. We hope you have a safe and very pleasant holiday. The McKale Ticket Office will be closed on Thursday and Friday, reopening Monday morning at 9 a.m. Tickets can still be purchased 24/7 online at www.arizonawildcats.com.
We're terrifically proud that the Wildcat women's cross country squad finished 11th in the NCAA Championships Monday in Terre Haute, Ind., and that men's cross country runner Stephen Sambu raced to a second-place finish at Nationals. Stephen took two-time champion Sam Chelanga of Liberty to the wire, missing the title in a foot race by four seconds. The women improved from a 30th place finish a year ago to 11th place this year, with scoring from Elvin Kibet, Hannah Moen, Megan Meyer, Jennifer Bergman and Maggie Callahan. Way to go Cats!
IN NEED OF VOLUNTEERS
In February, we will be launching a Wildcat Club Fund Drive to increase the number of donors to Arizona Athletics. Volunteers will play a huge part of this effort and will be essential to helping us achieve our ultimate goal of having 12,000 Wildcat Club members (we currently have 7,200). We will give out both team and individual prizes to those that utilize their personal networks to generate the most new Wildcat Club members and the most new revenue for Arizona Athletics. If you are interested in volunteering for us, please click HEREto fill out a Fund Drive volunteer application. You could really make an impact on our program and our 500 student-athletes.
BOWL GAME TICKET REQUESTS
Speaking of the Wildcat Club, don't forget that Wildcat Club members, football season ticket holders, and A-Club members have an exclusive window to register for bowl game tickets that ends on Wednesday, Dec. 8th at noon. Click HERE to make your request online. If you are not a current member, you can still sign up for the Wildcat Club by the above deadline in order to submit a bowl game request before the general public. Wildcat Club donations will also increase your priority point total, which determines bowl game seating.
BLACK FRIDAY SHOPPING
For one day only, ArizonaBasketball Black Friday Holiday Packswill be half off the regular single-game price. That's four games - NAU, Robert Morris, CAL and Stanford - starting at just $39 per holiday pack (while supplies last). Other price options are available. Don't miss this great opportunity to watch your CATS in person during the holiday season. This offer is good for just one day, this Friday, Nov. 26, from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., and will be available exclusively online.
Both Arizona basketball teams remain undefeated this year. The women's squad is 4-0 after dominating Arkansas-Pine Bluff Monday afternoon. The 4-0 men defeated Bethune-Cookman last night 78 to 45... Don't forget to spread the word that we have tickets available for all men's basketball games, and otherwise-unoccupied student-section seats in the north end of McKale also can be sold within 48 hours of games if not earmarked by ZonaZoo patrons... Volleyball looks to be a solid pick for the NCAA tournament after a weekend sweep of Washington State and #13 Washington (our first victory over the Huskies in eight years). The Wildcats will close the regular season in the Bay Area this week. Friday's game against #2 Cal will be televised on Fox Sports Net, so be sure to tune in... Coming up next week is a big one - the Territorial Cup football game against our friends to the north on Thursday night in Arizona Stadium. Let's get the place rocking for our bowl-bound Cats! Yes, that's encouragement to buy tickets if you don't yet have them.
