HAPPY HOLIDAYS
Here's hoping you and yours have a very Merry Christmas and a pleasant holiday season. We appreciate your support and wish only the best to each and every one of you. Thanks for following University of Arizona Athletics. As a reminder, the McKale Ticket Office will be closed for the holiday break beginning at noon on Thursday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 27, reopening Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 9 a.m. Tickets can still be purchased 24/7 online atwww.arizonawildcats.com. We won't have a Wildcat Wednesday message next week, so Happy New Year, too!
TEXAS IS WILDCAT COUNTRY
I look forward to seeing many of you in San Antonio next week for the Valero Alamo Bowl. Please check ouronline listing for fan events. While the Ticket Office is closed for the holiday break, bowl tickets may bepurchased online up until 4 p.m. (MST)/5 p.m. (CST) on Wednesday, Dec. 29. All tickets purchased during the holiday break will be available for pick up at the Alamo Bowl beginning at 5 p.m. (CST) on game day. Arizona ticket Will Call will be located at the South-East box office.
I want to thank those of you who purchased tickets to donate to the service men and women from the three local bases in the San Antonio area - Fort Sam Houston, Lackland Air Force Base, and Randolph Air Force Base. We appreciate your support of our troops! If you are still interested in purchasing tickets (a portion of which may be tax-deductible) to donate to the military, you may do so by emailing us atcatsinfo@arizona.edu.
Arizona red and blue will be prominent on four outdoor billboards in San Antonio. Thanks goes out to proud Wildcat Blake Custer, an Arizona Football Letterman, who, in conjunction with Luis Delatorre and Clear Channel Outdoor San Antonio, assisted in the production of the boards that recognize four of our Texas born football student-athletes.
THIS IS WILDCAT COUNTRY
You may have seen our new "This is Wildcat Country" billboard in Tucson at Benson Highway and Irvington. We have four additional boards that were recently posted in Blythe (I-10/250 ft. east of CA state line), Yuma (I-8/Ave. 4E CA to AZ), Gallup (I-40 mile post 14), and Bitter Springs (highway 89 South to Flagstaff).
I want to see and hear from our fans in these areas, so I will give away twoPac-10 Planmen's basketball tickets (the Pac-10 Plan includes all nine conference home games) to the first fan who emails a photo of themselves in their Wildcat red and blue with one of our new boards in the background (excluding the board in Tucson). No doctored photos, please. Include some of the landscape in your photo so we know where you are. I'll also give away a pair of tickets to one game for the first photo that comes in of a fan in their red and blue in front of a board in the remaining three locations. That's four total winners. Send your photos tofacebook@arizona.edu.
PAC-10 ROUNDBALL
Both our basketball teams are gearing up for Pac-10 openers at the end of this month, and both have done well in non-conference play. There is some exciting hoops to be had in McKale Center, so check your calendars, check with our ticket office, and join us. Combined, the teams are 18-4, so things are going well. Keep it up, Cats.
BASEBALL SEASON
On Monday, Collegiate Baseball released its preseason 2011 rankings and Arizona checked in at No. 22. Led by All-Americans Jett Bandy and Kurt Heyer, the Wildcats should have a great year. Baseball season tickets are on sale now for only $70 (65% savings off the regular single game price). Call 520-621-CATS (2287) or clickHERE to purchase your tickets. Help us fill up Sancet Stadium!
WILDCAT FRIDAYS
The City of Tucson Prosecutor's Office tried to break a "Wildcat Wednesday" record last Friday with the largest number of employees wearing the colors so far this year. They had 45 people in red and blue - impressive! Can anyone break this record?
NOTES...
I joined a group of our Diamond and Platinum Wildcat Club members for the men's basketball charter trip last week to North Carolina State, and want to thank them for their support. A victory in ACC country surely helped make the overnight excursion a success, and made a four-hour plane ride home a more comfortable experience. I have to say that the crowd in McKale Center takes no back seat to that one on Tobacco Road. Keep wearing the colors and keep our arena a hopping place that's formidable to opponents... Just around the corner is the Spring Semester, which starts January 12. That means that very soon 13 of our sports programs will be in action or in training...Our men's swimming and diving team will open spring action ranked No. 2 in the nation and the women ranked No. 7... I'd like to extend a welcome to new defensive line coach Joe Salave'a, a former Wildcat All-Pac-10 performer and NFL veteran...Former Wildcat legend Tedy Bruschi was named Alumni of the Year by the Walter Camp Foundation. His ambassadorship for Arizona's program is outstanding and just keeps going. Congratulations, Tedy... The first couple months of the calendar year are the heaviest for intercollegiate athletics. Here's to academic success, solid physical and mental preparation, and abundant confidence for all our Wildcat teams as they head into the winter-spring schedule...
