Michael Lopez is in his first season on the Arizona coaching staff following a four-year career as a pitcher for the Wildcats. As the team's undergraduate assistant coach, Lopez works closely with both pitchers and hitters during practices, prepares scouting reports on opponents and assists the coaching staff in a variety of other roles on a daily basis. During games, Lopez will compile situational hitting charts and will work in the bullpen with pitchers.
In his four seasons as a player, Lopez was one of the team's most tireless workers and set example for his teammates both on and off the field. He pitched in one game during each of the 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons respectively, allowing just one hit and no runs over 3.1 combined innings in his career.
Lopez, who graduated from Sabino High School in 2008, will graduate from The University of Arizona in May 2013 with a degree in family studies. Lopez is the son of Andy and Linda Lopez. Michael has three siblings, including David, an infielder on the team, and sisters Kristi and Kerri, both graduates of Arizona.
