TUCSON -The Arizona Wildcats will advance to the NCAA Super Regional Baseball Championships after a convincing 16-3 win over the Louisville Cardinals on Sunday night at Hi Corbett Field. In three games during the regional weekend, Arizona scored 47 runs and outscored its opponents 47-10. James Farris was the winning pitcher of record for Arizona, throwing a complete game with seven strike outs and just one walk. Jeff Thompson was the losing pitcher of record for Louisville, throwing five innings and giving up five runs on four hits.
The Wildcats collected four hits, four runs and seven RBI from Johnny Field. Joey Rickard chipped in with two hits, three runs and three RBI. Cole Sturgeon paced the Cardinals with three hits and two RBI.
Arizona will learn its NCAA Super Regional Championships fate on Monday evening when host sites are announced. The Wildcats will face the St. John's Red Storm, winner of the UNC/Chapel Hill Regional.
