Arizona Head Coach Sean Miller
"Oregon deserves all the credit for coming out with the victory today. They came in together, played hard, and have a number of quality players that helped them get the win. Devoe Joseph had a good game today, as did Olu Ashaolu. If you look at the Oregon team from a year ago, they're older, more experienced, talented, and they came in here and outplayed us for the first half of the game. Our team isn't talented enough to pick and choose how well we are going to play, and we didn't do enough for the first twenty-two minutes."
"It's hard to scout with such a quick turnaround, but we went zero for four on executing what we talked about, and we really have no room for error. Oregon made plays today. I will say that we did turn things around during the second half, and a lot of our first half issues went away, but we have to come out playing hard for forty minutes."
"Missing eight free throws, like we did today, just puts more pressure on the offense. Ten turnovers in the first half also make things very difficult. We had a bad first twenty-two minutes, but then it got better. If you look at the stats, we out-rebounded Oregon 31-30, but it was not that close for most of the game. We were a lot more aggressive in the second half on defense and getting those second shots."
"Josiah Turner played a season high twenty-nine minutes today, and did a lot of good things for us, as did Nick Johnson, but it's not about the individual anymore. We have to have effort for the entire game. It's January, we're in the middle of Pac-12 Conference play, and we have to be tougher. We have to get rebounds, execute our defense, and be ready. We weren't ready today. Oregon was the better team this time, and they deserve all the credit."
Arizona Player Quotes
Junior Forward Solomon Hill
On the feeling after the game:
"It sucks, you know. The first half is the reason we lost the game. I'm tired of it. Tired of losing in my own gym. My freshman year we got beat a lot here. They would win every battle, every war. Then we turned things around. I don't like losing here; it's a funny feeling. I haven't lost a conference game here since my freshman year."
On what the issue defensively was:
"We were lacking concentration. They got what they wanted on their set plays. They're the same sets we saw in practice; it was nothing new. We just lacked concentration. You can't let them punch you in the mouth the first time and hope to get it right the second time. By then it's too late."
Freshman Guard Josiah Turner
On the steal and dunk that tied the game late:
"I was in the gap, he tried to penetrate and kick and I jumped it and went down and tied the game."
On his missed three-point attempt that would have taken the lead late in the game:
"I wasn't ready for it. I gotta be ready for it. I knew the shot was coming, I just wasn't ready for the pass."
Freshman Guard Nick Johnson
On being passive in the first half:
"I think that was the problem. We waited for something to happen rather than just going out there and doing it ourselves. That's what happened in the first half and was the reason we got off to a slow start in the second half. In the future we have to be aggressive and make things happen and not wait like we did tonight."
On whether it took a while to get into the flow of the game:
"Not at all. I thought they had a good gameplan on me and (Kyle) Fogg. They watched the game Thursday night; they knew who the shooters were. I went out there and played defense, rebounded and just played hard."
