Head Coach Sean Miller
"I have to give Utah a lot of credit, because their offense, and the number of players that shot the three well, really gave us trouble today. In the second half, I have to give credit to Kyle Fogg, Brendon Lavender, and Nick Johnson for coming back and making big shots, because if any one of them didn't go our way, we probably wouldn't have come out of today with the win."
"I can't say that our defense in the second half was better than the first, because it was actually worse, because when you're trying to make a comeback, and you're spreading the floor, it makes it easier for the other team to make the three, which Utah did."
"Another thing that was disappointing is that we had zero confidence in the first twenty minutes of the game. We missed a number of wide open shots, and I was helpless, as a coach. Utah really stole our confidence today, and we are extremely fortunate to come out with the win. A number of our players fought hard, and we probably have the best crowd in the west, one of the best in the country, and they really kept us in the game in the first half. They're extremely loyal, and I appreciate that they stayed with us in some of our tougher moments early in the game, and then we fed off that energy."
"Brendon Lavender's threes were huge for us today, and I told him after the game that if we didn't have his performance in both the game against Oregon State and today's game against Utah, we definitely wouldn't have come out with the win. Those two games would have been losses, home losses, without him. He's got the energy, his heart is in the right place, and he wants to win just as much as any other guy I've coached. I'm really proud of his performance."
"Kyle Fogg's six steals, four of ten from three, and seventeen points really says it all in terms of his effort level. Today, Kyle and Brendon was the unit that we saw in Solomon Hill and Jesse Perry against Colorado. I also have to say that Nick Johnson, in twenty-six games at Arizona probably played his best game tonight, coming up big for us in the second half and played with the energy we needed in order to get the win."
Arizona Player Quotes
#24 Brendon Lavender
On shooting performance
"After seeing Fogg hit shots and Nick shoot great, that sparked our bench and got everybody going. We got the ball into Jesse and Solomon and if they weren't open they kicked it out to us."
"My teammates looked for me, I had the hot hand and they found me. I get confidence from Fogg shooting well, he's one of the best shooters in the Pac-12 and Nick hit big shots, that really gives me more confidence."
#13 Nick Johnson
On slow start
"Every game we have to approach as a key game. If we had lost, that would have been really bad for our season. It doesn't matter who it is. Looking forward to Washington State and Washington, every game is a big game now."
"Coach told us we played terrible for 30 minutes and then the last 10 minutes we stepped it up."
On shooting performance
"I made a couple shots and Brendon hit some. I see them hit shots and that propels me and they were feeling good today."
#21 Kyle Fogg
"It shows the growth of our team, individually and together. We're playing for the big picture, to win at the end. It doesn't matter who is scoring."
"We did a great job of staying together and not panicking. We knew we were going to win, we made them take tough shots and got some stops."
On defense the last five minutes
"Guys played hard; it was crunch time and winning time. We stepped up."
On attacking zone defense of Utah
"We weren't moving the ball, we had a great game plan and we have a good zone offense we just weren't executing. We were stagnant, not moving the ball and guys were standing. Once we moved the ball Brendon knocked down some shots and then Nick took it upon himself to get the win."
