Arizona heac coach Sean Miller Quotes:
On performance vs. Long Beach State
"I thought tonight there were times in the first and second halves where it was our best play of the season. We looked how you hope we would look. Now we have to take that, from whatever time that was, I'd say maybe six minutes in the first half and eight in the second, from that 14 minutes, we have to grow and make it more about being that team for 40 minutes."
"For part of it, we came unglued. There was not enough energy and we had kind of a selfish moment, so we got what we deserved. They got back in the game, but to our team's credit in the second half, whether we played well or didn't play well, that was due to Long Beach State."
On Brandon Ashley
"Brandon Ashley was the best player on the court for us. Any time you get 20 and 10 in 24 minutes, that's terrific. We started him tonight not because of anything Grant [Jerrett] did, because he's rock solid, but as a reward to Brandon. He's practiced very well."
"How you practice is how you play, and how he played was very similar to how he practiced the other night."
On starting line-up
"We'll rotate our starting line-up because I believe those guys are equal in many ways and they deserve to start at some point."
"We were tentative in offensive rebounding in the first-half. We addressed it at halftime and were much more aggressive in the second half. Anytime you can get second shots, fouls follow. One of the things our team has is the gift of size, and we have depth. To out rebound them 41-23 on the heels on how we rebounded against UTEP, that's a sign of things to come for us. That's certainly one of the strong areas that has to remain strong, and we have to make it bigger and stronger."
On three-point defense
"When you give up 14 threes in one game, very seldom are you going to win the game. We're giving up way too many. We need to fix that."
On long break until next game
"I think it will go really well. It's up to us to use this time to be healthy and do well academically. This is a great opportunity for them to finish out the semester strong without any games and no travel."
"As soon as the break ends we're in the hot point of our non-conference schedule. We'll play four or five games in roughly two and a half weeks, and that leads into Christmas where we'll play our tournament."
On Solomon Hill
"Solomon is a throwback in that he has improved each and every year. He's added an element to what he did the previous year. He's grown as a person, he's grown as a leader, and he's grown as a basketball player. Looking at his career when it finally ends, which hopefully won't be for a long time, I think you'll see that he did some great things in his four year period at Arizona. Having said that, he didn't have a great first half, but he followed that up as a veteran player and had a great second half."
Arizona Player Quotes
Freshman forward Brandon Ashley
On his improvement as a player:
"I've stuck with the process. I strive to try my best and continue to improve."
"You don't want to go into the game and force anything. My teammates were looking for me and they put me in a great position to score. With that happening, I didn't feel the need to force up any shots."
On preparation for starting:
"I don't think it matters. Just knowing you're going to be in the game and doing what you can. I don't think whether you start or not really matters."
Senior forward Solomon Hill
On the best shooter on the team:
"On any given night it can be a different player. Tonight was Kevin's (Parrom) night. If we continue to shoot like that it will add a different dimension to our team. Like I said, it could be anybody's night."
On getting 50 points before the half:
"By moving the ball, we were able to get the ball to the inside and Brandon (Ashley) was able to get some rebounds and draw the fouls. Even though we scored 50, we gave them a lot of 3's. When you get a fast paced team like Long Beach State that's the type of style you want to play to get points up on the board."
On playing fast paced:
"We love playing fast paced. There are some things on defense that we need to clean up and analyze. Three point defense is something we need to work on."
On the meaning of getting 1,000 points:
"It doesn't really mean anything. I would hope I could get 1,000 points for as long as I have been here (laughs)."
