Russ Pennell Quotes
"I am glad that we won this game today. I believe that there is no such thing as a bad win. By winning we got our ninth win of the season."
"Hill has a strained muscle it is not that big of an injury. It is a day to day thing. At practice he came down and landed funny on his foot. It is a muscle around his tibia. We missed Hill quite a bit this game. He demands a lot of attention so that tends to leave a lot of the guys open. Hill is one of the bigger better players; he is a very good shot blocker. He is a very dominant player. With Hill, out Nic and Chase have to be more assertive.
"A 9-3 record sounds good going in to the Pac-10 games. As a team we are still getting better. The young players on the team are stepping up and improving. We really do not have a bad loss all our losses have been against great teams. I would feel better about going into the Pac-10 games if Hill was 100 percent able to play."
"Lute was at the game I knew he was going to be here. I was tying to look for him around the area where he was sitting but them I caught myself and said I am supposed to be coaching. I told Lute he is always welcome around our guys."
Arizona Player Quotes
Junior Forward Chase Budinger
On the "slow start":
"I thought we started off well in the first three, four minutes. After that is when we let off, started playing at their level. Our intensity dropped off."
On the smaller line up:
"The thing about the smaller line up is it allows us to run faster, which is what we love to do. The four guard line up allows us to push the ball up the floor and get some mismatches out there. We can play to our strengths, especially without Jordan in there."
On the ability to play well without a key piece of the "big 3":
"Our role players really played great tonight. I think Jamelle stepped up big time. Kyle stepped up along with Garland and `Tree' (Alex Jacobson). We have guys that we couldn't count on last year. We need everyone out there, not just the `big 3'."
Junior Guard Nic Wise
"I guess you could say I was feeling it. I just tried to be more assertive. It was kind of weird playing for the first time without Jordan. He's our finisher. Everyone had to step up, Chase and myself included. We did some new things out there tonight. With four guards out there we were able to spread it out. Defenses can't guard our penetration and our kick out."
On yet another 40 minute game for Wise and Budinger:
"Our coaches do a good job of gauging us during practice, making sure we get subbed in and out. They make sure we're not running too much, because we get our conditioning in the games. It's really on the coaches and our strength and conditioning coaches in practice."
Are you surprised at the 9-3 start?
"We're not surprised, not at all. We feel like we should be at least 10-2. In that UAB game, we go into overtime and anything could have happened, and then the loss in New York. We're always optimistic. We know we have a good team."
