Nov. 8, 2012
TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona men's basketball player Solomon Hill has been named to the John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top-50, announced today by the Los Angeles Athletic Club.
The list is comprised of 50 student-athletes who, based on last year's individual performance and team records, are under consideration for college basketball's player-of-the-year award.
A 6-foot-7, 220-pound senior forward from Los Angeles, Calif., Hill averaged 12.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game to go with a .500 (151-of-302) field goal percentage year. He scored in double figures 27 times, and had three 20-point games and 12 double-doubles to his credit.
He ranked 16th in the Pac-12 Conference in scoring, second in rebounding and 13th in field goal percentage. Hill was a first-team all-conference and NABC all-District 20 selection in 2011-12.
Hill scored a career-high 28 points on Jan. 28 vs. Washington. He is one of four Pac-12 players on the list.
In March, the National Ballot, consisting of approximately 20 top players who have proven to their universities that they are also making progress toward graduation and maintaining a cumulative 2.0 GPA, will go out to voters to select the winner, as well as the Wooden Award All-America team.
The 37th annual Wooden Award ceremony, which will include the announcement of the Men's and Women's Wooden Award winner, and the presentation of the Wooden Award All-American Teams and the Legends of Coaching Award, will take place the weekend of April 12-13, 2013.
The 11th-ranked Wildcats open the regular season on Sunday, Nov. 11, against Charleston Southern in McKale Center at 4 p.m. MST. The contest will be televised by the Pac-12 Networks.
