University of Arizona head football coach Rich Rodriguez met with the media on Tuesday to preview Saturday's start to spring practice. Below is a brief transcript.
After serving as Arizona's assistant director of operations for the 2012 season, Charlie Ragle was named assistant coach charged with overseeing the tight ends and special teams in December 2012.
Ragle was head coach at Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Ariz., since 2007, winning three 5A II state championships in 2009, 2010 and 2011 while compiling a remarkable 63-7 record in the span. Ragle's Chaparral staff developed a relationship with Rodriguez in 2008 when he recruited two of Ragle's prep players for Michigan's program.
Ragle's last Firebird team went 14-1 in capturing his third Division II state title. He also shared athletic director duties at Chaparral. He was defensive coordinator in 2005 at the school before taking a year to serve as a graduate assistant at ASU in 2006, working with the offensive line. He was defensive coordinator at Moon Valley High School in Phoenix for five years from 2000-04.
A 1998 graduate of Eastern New Mexico, Ragle was a three-year starting running back and kick returner. He and his wife, Carrie, have a daughter, Caylee and a son, Chas.
