The UA offense turned in a handful of big plays and mostly dominated the one-hour scrimmage on Tuesday morning at the Jimenez Practice Facility.

TUCSON, Ariz. - Any momentum lost by the UA football team's offense at Monday's practice was quickly gained back in the first scrimmage of the 2010 Fall Camp on Tuesday morning at the Jimenez Practice Facility on campus.
Nick Foles led the offensive attack by throwing three touchdowns, while the UA ground game was steady throughout overmatching the defense up front. All totaled, the offense racked up 446 yards on 50 plays, averaging 8.9 yards per play with 26 first downs. The defense forced two turnovers and tallied eight defensive stops.
"It was good to see some of players do some live situational stuff," Head Coach Mike Stoops told reporters.
Quick Take: Mike Stoops' Assessment
"Defensively, we're a little bit rough around the edges," Stoops explained. "We struggled a little bit with our position on the football."
On the opening drive of the scrimmage, Foles led the Wildcats on a 10-play, 70-yard drive, which was keyed by a 7-yard scramble by Foles on a third-and-seven play to keep the drive alive. Six plays later, Foles hit Travis Cobb on 7-yard throw-and-catch to put the offense on the board early.
Matt Scott took the controls for the second drive that began with a 42-yard pass play to freshman receiver Tyler Slavin. However, the defense settled in and turned away the offense as Alex Zendejas' 48-yard field goal attempt missed.
The defense continued to clamp down on the ensuing drive, forcing a three-and-out. Brooks Reed broke through for a sack on second down to put the offense behind the chains for the first time in the contest.
After two more defensive stops on the next drives, Foles got the offense back on track in the middle part of the scrimmage. Three consecutive completions to Cobb, Bug Wright and Gino Crump were capped by a 52-yard scoring play from Foles to Crump for the second touchdown of the day.
Two drives later, cornerback Trevin Wade intercepted Scott after Greg Nwoko had picked up 30 markers on the ground on consecutive carries. The turnover was the first of two on the day for the offense.
But Foles quickly guided the offense back down the field. An 8-play, 70-yard drive included four straight completions to four different receivers. The offense punched in a third touchdown on a 15-yard toss from Foles to Wright.
The defense made one more big play of its own late in the scrimmage when Adam Hall recovered a fumble by Daniel Jenkins, which thwarted a deep drive led by Scott and the offense.
In the two-minute drill to close out the scrimmage, Foles connected with David Douglas and David Roberts on 25- and 20-yard pass plays on consecutive throws to start the drive. Later, a 9-yard run by Nic Grigsby centered the ball as the offense let the clock wind down to three seconds before calling timeout. However, Zendejas, who earlier hit a 46-yard field goal, missed wide from 34-yards on the final play of the day.
"When it's all said and done, I think we're going to have a deeper team than we've had," Stoops said. "Not a more experienced team, but obviously a deeper, athletic team."
Arizona will take Wednesday off to complete summer school and prepare to head to Fort Huachuca, where the team will spend four days. The first two-a-day of Fall Camp will be held on Thursday on post.
