University of Arizona football senior Kyle Quinn
has been named one of 30 finalists for the 2012 Senior CLASS Award, it was announced on Thursday. Quinn is Arizona's starting center with 36 career games under his belt.
Quinn has played in 36 career games with 16 starts at center. He is Arizona's top returner to the offensive line in 2012 and was an All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention honoree as a junior in 2011. He earned his first start in the 2010 Alamo Bowl and has been part of the starting line-up ever since.
Leading Arizona to a 3-0 start, Quinn anchors the line that has allowed for Arizona's offense to average 604.67 yards per game to rank No. 4 nationally and No. 2 in the Pac-12. The Wildcats lead the nation in first downs and, individually, quarterback Matt Scott leads the Pac-12 in total offense (395 yards per game). On the season, Scott has thrown for 995 yards on 88-of-123 passing attempts with just one interception thrown. He has connected with Arizona's receiving corps for seven TDs in the air.
In May 2012, Quinn earned his bachelor's degree in history with a minor in geography. He held an undergraduate GPA of 2.941. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in educational leadership. His career goals include teaching and coaching.
Additionally, he has accumulated 30 hours of community service during his career. His time has been spent at a Boys and Girls Club Dinner, participating in Beat Back Buffelgrass Day to remove hazardous brush, visiting with elementary school-aged children, a bowling event with children in the foster-care system, visits to the Diamond Children's Medical Center and participating in a March of Dimes event.
From the list of 30 candidates, a national media committee will select 10 finalists for the 2012 Senior CLASS Award in October. Those 10 names will then be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote. Fan balloting will be coupled with votes from coaches and media to determine the recipient of the award.
The Wildcats will make their first road trip of the season and open Pac-12 play facing the Oregon Ducks on Sat., Sept. 22, at Autzen Stadium. The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. PT and air on ESPN.
